    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • It was a valuable day where we were shown a variety of the Campus's areas and met some current employees. It included some good bit and some slightly repetitive bits, but the aim of the day was to learn about the technical interviews that BP have and that was achieved.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • Not hugely applicable here, but they did make the effort to reward us being BP Scholars by making this day scholar specific. this meant that we didnt have to do any of the boring meet and greet and we were treated as if we had some understanding of the company. they also tried to get as much input from us as they could and then rewarded us further by giving us hoodies, which were a brilliant bonus.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • This again isnt a hugely relevant question, but we were supported by many members of staff from all areas of the business. we were split in to very small groups with a single employee to go through the interview guidance with which was good, and the staff gave plenty of opportunities to ask questions, involve us and give insight into what we could do within the company.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • It made me realize that collaborating with others is very important and inclusion is vital in any situation for instance when faced with a problem to solve, Also, the experience inspired time to definitely consider applying for another programme at BP in the future. Provided a good starting stepping stone into the business

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • It was well structured with a long list of activities and insights. they had to accommodate many academic strands into one day, which made it more difficult, but we saw a variety of insights. The day was well organised, smoothly run, and planned well.

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • It was friendly. It being scholar specific meant that i knew the people there already, and we were not nervous about not knowing what to expect. the HR people were nice and the lunch with employees was, although initially awkward, very useful and helpful. I think the general feel of the company is as if they are in a bubble in their own world, very much pushing their own structure, values and ideology, which can be a bit wearing over time. It is done in a friendly way though, and chatting to the staff on a one on one basis is the best part because they seem more real and you get to ask about anything you want. Best to not have forced sessions of one to one, but to allow for us to chat with people if we wish.

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • They really went out of their way to inform us about the application process and what they were looking for in potential candidates. At the same time they really helped give us tips and hints on how to perform well in the recruitment process.

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • I spent the best part of an hour talking to a grad schemer, who really explained the role, her experience, the best and worst parts of the role. It was a real eye opener and she really did sell the firm to me

    4/5

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • It was extremely helpful! Seeing all these people from around the firm at the end, all there to talk to you and engage with you was proof enough that it's an extremely welcoming and friend,y place to work. The hierarchy is flat in the firm, you spend time talking to anyone, and it's usually the seniors that will reach out to you and ask you how you're doing.

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • It was really helpful in understanding the industry, and what roles are available in the firm. It's a firm I'd definitely like to apply to because of it's amazing culture, and the great time I've had.

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • I was reimbursed for all my travel to and from the event. They always pay expenses, are very reasonable and quick to pay.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • Yes, a networking lunch. It wasnt really advertised as such, but i got to meet an interesting man who i chatted with. It was good that it wasnt very formal. i didnt feel obliged to ask stupid questions, it was just a good opportunity to see what he thought about aspects of the company i care about.

    4/5

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • The networking opportunities were excellent with the different prospective. you could ask different questions regarding the company and the employees and the opportunities available in the company.

    4/5

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • No this wasnt really covered in much depth. It could have been and would be interesting, but it would have been largely irrelevant for the day, as the aim was to prep us for an interview that we were already likely to take.

    2/5

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • Definitely would recommend to anyone that wished to pursue a job within this field. The experience is fantastic and will definitely sway you if you're unsure as to whether to apply or not.
