    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • I enjoyed it immensely. I found the day to be well-structured and informative, allowing me to develop my understanding of what opportunities were on offer for me and how the company as a whole operated and treated its employees.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • Very valued-every BP employee with us throughout the day was helpful and open to any questions we had, and every effort was made to ensure we got the most out of the discovery day.

    4/5

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • Plenty! Information was given on each of the three sectors in Integrated Supply and Trading, with a representative from each field giving a presentation. During the trading activity and interview workshop, feedback and helpful advice was given throughout by supervising BP workers. Having little knowledge of trading before, I left with a fuller understanding of the processes involved.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The workshops at the end of the day proved enormously instructive-not having much familiarity with the structure and content of technical interviews, I appreciated the advice and tips for what they consisted of and how to approach them. The information given on assessment centres will also be of great assistance in the future.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • Fantastic-the day was broken up into several sections-presentations on each area of IST, a practical trading exercise, a visit to the trading floor and skills and interview workshops. I found all sections to be engaging and sufficient breaks for lunch and socializing were provided and in a timely manner.

    4/5

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • Wonderful-everyone was very welcoming and providing interesting insights throughout the day about working at BP. I thoroughly enjoyed meeting all the other Î÷¹ÏÊÓƵs attending and would definitely recommend the experience of attending a discovery day.

    4/5

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • We received an introductory session on trading terms which was very helpful, particularly for those with no prior knowledge of economics, The trading exercise was supervised by BP professionals who advised us on how to improve if we encountered any difficulties. We also participated in workshops that would increase future employability due to knowledge gained concerning recruitment and application processes.

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • Information was given on the structure and roles involved in both the internships and graduate placements offered by the company. I also learned of the development programmes offered by the company, and the working culture of BP. The emphasis of performance above time was something that appealed to me. I also was attracted by the extra benefits of working with BP, and the global nature of the company, which would potentially enable me to experience working in another country.

    5/5

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • Very helpful-through talking with a range of BP employees with a wealth of different experiences, I gained a broader understanding of how BP operates and what it expects from its employees. I liked how you could work hard and go home on time and be recognized as a good worker, rather than working overtime-but not necessarily as a efficient employee.

    4/5

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • I appreciated the multi-sector nature of the day, as it gave me the opportunity to explore fields such as trading and commercial that I had not previously considered or researched in any great depth. However the technology talk was very valuable in affirming my decision to apply for one of the BP programmes later in my course, as I received a more comprehensive view of what was involved in the programmes.

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • BP not only reimbursed business travel expenses to the venue, but due to to a change in the flight timings' suitability, provided me with accommodation the night before. I found their travel centre to be highly helpful in this manner.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • I was able to meet many employees in a variety of roles throughout the day, and plenty of breaks we provided to speak with them and learn more about the company.

    5/5

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • Fantastic-I felt I had enough time to get to know the other participants on the Discovery Day.

    4/5

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • Yes-BP seems to encourage employees in their external pursuits. As I understand it, there is a sports league between different companies, and free gym memberships are offered for a nearby gym to all employees. On graduate programmes, every year there is a trip to an external BP location such as oil refineries/processing areas, which enables those on the programmes to gain a greater understanding of how they fit into the wider business.

    4/5

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • Definitely-though I have many friends outside of STEM subjects, BP provides opportunities for those in all subject fields.
