    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • The Discovery Day was incredibly useful, encouraging, detailed, and fun. We got a range of experiences from application and interview help and experience, being shown by staff and told by graduates in their placements what working for the company is like, we had a tour of some of the key facilities, and plenty of opportunities for networking and asking more questions. It was really the perfect insight experience.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • Very valued, the staff made every effort to learn our names I didn't have to introduce myself to the main event organiser once, and they were very courteous about my dietary [coeliac] needs despite me being late to respond to the email requesting for this information. A member of staff recognised me from previous experience I've had with BP and spoke to me by name and was extremely friendly so overall I felt very valued by everyone involved.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • Staff made every effort to answer questions fully or direct us to someone who could specifically answer the question, they were extremely supportive with application help and interview guidance and providing further information when questions were asked.

    5/5

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The interview help developing our skills was invaluable and the day in general may have changed how I view the skills I learned during my degree and how I may be able to apply them within BP.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • Very well structured the day plan was made clear at the beginning, with a couple of delays between events everything otherwise ran seamlessly.

    5/5

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • Everyone was incredibly enthusiastic and welcoming, other Î÷¹ÏÊÓƵs at the Discovery Day were keen to get to know one another and some recognised others including myself from previous BP events. The atmosphere was like a class that already knew each other going on a field trip, everyone was so friendly.

    4/5

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The staff answered questions with lots of detail and put me in contact with other staff that could answer my questions more fully, but in terms of training and development I don't feel that the investment was personal to me. However BP did seem very keen to welcome us to the company and encouraged us to apply.

    3/5

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • The graduates and interns already at BP answered any and all questions we may have had as well as presentations giving us a really clear idea of what it would be like, and this was great as it made it easier to visualise myself beginning a career in the same direction with BP.

    4/5

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • Everyone seems to be very clear on BP's values and company culture and this was reflected in the presentation and answers to questions about day-to-day workplace life. It clarified lots of detail that simply reading off the website doesn't give you.

    5/5

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • The day was so full of information and clarified what working for BP would be like, that I can confidently say that I will be applying for a job with BP whereas before I was on the fence, so this day was invaluable!

    4/5

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • Some of the details about what would or would not be reimbursed were not made clear before I booked a hotel, for example, for the night before, however I am confident that this will be reimbursed.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • Different staff members were around all day and we were able to ask for contact details.

    5/5

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • They were in a variety of situations (presentations, lunch, tour, talks) which made it more relaxed and informal, which made it easier to ask for contact details and discuss things we were enthusiastic about.

    4/5

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • The graduates told us plenty about the workplace lifestyle such as the gym facilities, the transport links, what living in the area was like, their social lives and there were plenty of opportunities to ask these questions.

    5/5

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • I have recommended applying for a discovery day to several friends already, especially to anyone on the fence about working for BP as this day would certainly make it clear whether BP seems like the kind of company they would enjoy working for.
