About You
There was an excellent mix of activities to do and the perfect amount of time was spent on all of them. The day consisted of a mix of games, tours and presentations. Everybody was really friendly, there was plenty of opportunities to ask questions and no question was treated as a silly question! It was clear that they all wanted to help as much as possible and went out of their way to make us all feel welcome. The information they gave us was useful and interesting. The (free!) lunch was delicious!
We were asked our opinion and were allowed to ask questions without being made to feel silly. Although we were all Î÷¹ÏÊÓƵs, I never felt talked down to.
There were always people around who we could talk to and everything was explained really well. The Challengers gave us plenty of tips and advice on how they reached their positions.
The section of the day on application processes and interview tips was especially helpful. It was great to get a mock interview question as this is something I'd never had at school or uni. We got given lots of advice and information on career options in the energy industry after university.
The Company
Everything ran very smoothly, we never had to wait for the next speaker to arrive and were never left with nothing to do. It didn't feel like we were on a strict schedule though, they still managed to retain a relaxed atmosphere throughout the day and made sure there was enough time for breaks.
Relaxed, fun, welcoming. Everyone was really friendly and helpful. It wasn't awkward at all (even when we had ice breaker questions which are usually the worst part of the day!). Thanks!
I don't think the purpose of the Discovery Day was to provide training or development but rather to let us experience BP as a company. We did get to practice mock interview questions with a member of HR which was very useful.
The Challengers were great to talk to about what it was like working for the company as they had recently graduated from uni. There were members from a range of disciplines to talk to so we got a good idea of what it would be like to work in the company.
We got talks from a range of professionals and Challengers about company life and culture.
It made me more aware of all the different career paths in the energy industry. I'm not sure that it helped me decide which career path I want to take but it did show me what a nice company BP would be to work for!
Everything Else
They offered to reimburse travel and accommodation expenses but I live close by so that wasn't necessary for me.
We had a networking lunch and many of the people who were at that remained for the course of the day so there was always the chance to talk to them.
Relaxed but informative and very useful. It was easy to ask questions and find out more about the company.
Some of the Challengers touched on it during their presentations but it wasn't explored in too much detail.
Definitely! An overall great experience and one I haven't seen offered by any other company. I think it was probably the best way to find out about BP.
