About You
The insight day was very helpful in my development. This is because we were provided with information about the current procedures for graduates and interns. I was able to gain a perspective on the scale of the investments made in research and development of new, pioneering technologies.
I believed I was a valued member by being able to speak freely, asking as many questions as I wanted. The refreshments given exceeded my expectations, which made me feel even more valued. There were no moments on the day where I felt pressurised or uncomfortable.
I received detailed information on what to expect when applying for an internship next summer. This will aid my application as I can further tailor my responses according to the advice given.
On the day, the tour of the labs and HIVE allowed me to gain a perspective on the vast amount of research carried out. This assisted me in my degree as it showed me that there are both technical and research roles which I can pursue with my chosen degree- Petroleum Engineering.
The Company
At the start of the day, a timetable was displayed which made me feel at ease as I knew the day was well structured and all activities were carried out roughly at the times displayed.
The discovery day was a great experience and would definitely recommend it to anyone hoping to one day gain a role in an company like BP.
I felt like the company invested lots of time in structuring the Discovery day. There were many activities, each helping to develop different skills such as communication and team working.
One of the aspects which I really enjoyed was the talks by current graduates in the BP organisation. These individuals were specialised in a career path which was relevant to most of the attendees.
I was able to understand the importance of the companies core values and how seriously each employee took these.
As a petroleum engineer I have always known I want a career path in an oil and gas company. This day was valuable as it helped distinguish between the different job roles available such as petroleum and reservoir engineers.
Everything Else
All my travel costs will be reimbursed which is really helpful as a Î÷¹ÏÊÓƵ.
By listening to a graduate reservoir engineer I was able to understand what exactly their typical job roles involve, which for me was very important.
During lunch time the current graduates were present allowing us more time to network with them in a more informal setting.
I found out that BP employees have multiple sporting activities which anyone can join and participate within.
Yes! The day was great fun and helped with my development.
