    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • The placement was not only a very good insight into industry, but a very good opportunity to make contacts. Many social events allowed us to interact with people in many different teams and make friends with fellow colleagues in Banbury.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Colleagues treated us as equals, and not just interns. We were given a lot of support from team members and equal responsibilities within the team despite being far less experienced.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Students are all allocated personal projects that the conduct independently, or in collaboration with other people. Supervisors and managers provided support and steered us in the right direction should we need help. Otherwise, 西瓜视频s were free to plan experiments, analysis and other work at their own time. Supervisors were very supportive and open to suggestions and ideas I had and were willing to explore them.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Every day is planned by yourself, so it largely depended on your own personal time management. For me, I consulted my manager on time lines and schedules which meant that I had a very good distribution of work through the year. Some periods were lull, especially when equipment required was unavailable or I had to wait on results. Other times, when the te This helped me improve my time management skills as a lot of equipment I needed for trials were also used by other people, meaning I had to plan ahead a lot of the time.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Interns are given full responsibility for their projects, along with other team commitments such as sensory support and shelf life testing. We were free to conduct trials, research and experiments throughout the week, and report our finding to supervisors and managers weekly. Students are also part of the charity committee, where we plan activities to fund raise for various charities. However, we were always supported by leadership teams in case we needed any help.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The placement has helped make the knowledge acquired in uni more tangible, as we see how it can be applied in industry. It provides insights into various parts of the business (such as management, sales, marketing) and other issues product developers face that we do not experience in uni (cost, marketability, margins). It will also help make sense of what we learn at uni since it becomes more than just knowledge acquired for exams, but knowledge that we could possibly use to aid an organisation in their development

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Very good balance of work and fun in the office. Colleagues are very open to having fun in the office, while still providing the necessary professional support when the time called for it. My personal relationship with my manager was great, as we were not only colleagues but also friends.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The allocation of projects were very good as they tried their hardest to relate our projects to our degrees as much as possible. However, initial start of the placement was quite messy as we were expected to complete certain modules and courses, which we had to organise by ourselves. On the bright side, it gave the 西瓜视频s an opportunity to interact and make plans amongst themselves.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The company was very supportive in terms of personal development. They gave us opportunity to attend courses we expressed interest in, such as green belt training courses and presentation skills workshops etc

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Subsidised Canteen

    National Travel

    International Travel

    Company Parties/Events

    Staff Sales/Staff Shop

    Above 25 days holiday

    Working from home

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Many colleagues (50% of the people I'm friends with) in the office were hired from the placement program. Although some of them were not offered opportunities straight after their placement year, they were contacted by previous managers or friends made when a vacancy was available after their graduation from uni.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement 西瓜视频s/colleagues?
  • Though the town is small, it never seemed to be short of activity. We had socials in the town at least 3 times a week, whether it was playing sports, like badminton, frisbee, bowling or football, or just chilling at the numerous pubs or cafes in the town.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Banbury is not expensive. Rent came at an average of 拢300 a month (in a house) and food was pretty reasonable as well. The train station is not more than a 20 minutes walk from work should you live outside of town.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Banbury is a small town with not many clubs (maybe 2) and many pubs scattered along the streets. However, Leamington is a 30 minute train ride away, and Oxford is a 15 minute ride, both of which offer really decent nightlife. On that note, none of us have actually felt the need to leave Banbury for nightlife as it is still a lot of fun

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Mondelez offered endless opportunities for us to do volunteer work with various organisations (paralympics support, swimathons etc). Colleagues often organised various activities (night market hopping, punting in oxford, laser quest, paintballing etc) outside of work hours

    5/5
