About You
The BP discovery day was an excellent introduction to the company. It allowed to you to network with current staff and meet like minded people studying the same or similar courses. It was also realistic about job opportunities within the company and what sort of qualifications you need. The whole day was professionally run and relatively on time and was definitely worth going.
It is hard to answer this sort of question after it was only one day but i was made to feel welcome in my time at BP
We were given a talk about how to apply for job opportunities within BP and all my questions about what the best degree option for the company were answered.
I think it has made me realise what I need to achieve in my degree and studies to work for a company like BP.
The Company
The day started a little late but after that the timings were fine. The activities and exercises were well run and the order was good.
The atmosphere between the people attending the discovery day was great as most people had degree options that were similar so the conversation and teamwork was good.
It was only a insight day so there was not a lot time for this.
The discovery day showed me that working for BP is quite prestigious and with that comes a responsibility.
This was one thing that was mentioned a lot. When applying for a role you have to know the companies "motto" and have to fit in with the culture the company creates.
As a undergraduate studying geoscience I want to do a role within the petroleum industry and this discovery day further compounded that.
Everything Else
I was reimbursed my travel expenses.
Yes we had an hour or so meeting different employers within the company hearing about what current projects they work on and how what qualifications they had when they applied to join the company.
I really enjoyed them and asked lots of questions relative to my current degree options.
As it was only an insight day we did not hear much about other activities as they day was more focused on what it would be like to work for BP.
Yes I would recommend it to anyone studying geology who is unsure or thinking about studying in the petroleum industry.
