    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • A great group of interns combined with the freedom to visit BP's sites across the UK made for a very enjoyable internship!

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • With summer assignments based around current projects within BP, plenty of time was spent trying to get an idea of what colleagues were working on and how everything fitted together. Everybody was extremely helpful and made time for any questions we had throughout the 11 weeks.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Starting with very little experience within an oil and gas company, and having never worked on Subsea Hardware prior to the internship, the situation could become quite daunting. With great support from both my manager and supervisor, they were able to get me up to speed very quickly with the current projects, where my project fitted in and who I should contact for questions regarding different sections of the assignment.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Throughout the majority of the internship I was fairly busy - 8:30am through to around 5pm, picking up slightly more through the middle of the summer, and relaxing slightly towards the end. Due to the nature of the project, time-management was very flexible, like a University course with meetings rather than lectures.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Some interns were working directly with a current project, where-as my project was a lot more research-based - taking past information and developments to reporting on conclusions set out at the start of the assignment.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Skills developed in re-structuring processes to increase efficiency, writing technical documents and working with both internal and external colleagues will be in-valuable when transitioning from Uiversity-style work through to industry as a graduate.

    4/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • A relaxed environment, with a lot of group discussions about work going on around the office.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Introductory sessions with all the interns, presentation technique workshops and group nights out resulted in a very well organised internship. The HR team were very helpful throughout the summer - any questions we had were answer promptly, and the projects we worked on within our teams were relevant to the bigger BP picture.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Lunch-and-Learn sessions, one-to-one sessions with colleagues within BP and travelling to both Petrochemical Plants and Trading departments ensured the summer was very valuable with respect to my personal development.
