The Role
Really well structured internship; clear project, supportive team and lots of social events outside working hours
very welcoming, free at all times to answer questions which was important as I previously did not have any experience in the industry what so ever
assigned many points of contact; line manager, supervisor and mentor so I was able to get all questions or doubts dealt with very quickly. It was a rare occasion when I wasn't sure who to contact when I got stuck on my project
There was a lot to get involved with outside of my assigned project such as participating in a range of competitions, attending talks by senior members of staff and social events to keep my time with BP hugely varied and diverse.
I had a clear set of tasks and objectives given to me with my project and it was made clear to me how this would benefit the work the team were carrying out.
It was hugely beneficial to me to bring together the broad knowledge from my degree to a practical and applied problem, It was great to be able to finally get to use what I'd been taught in a lecture theater to a relevant problem and learn so much more!
The Company
Social environment where people were happy to chat as well as discuss work so it always felt like there was work going on around and people were about to help me if I needed it !
Really good organisation, support structure and help with my project. There was never a time where I thought the company was unorganized or that I was sat without anything to do.
There was a good amount of personal training from my supervisor and a really good presentation skills workshop but I would have liked to perhaps have 1 or 2 training days alongside some graduate training days to get insight into my future career.

The graduate scheme seems like a fantastic way to enter the Oil and Gas industry as it seems to provide three 1 year placements in different roles exposing one to as much as possible.
The Culture
At the start there was a good amount of opportunities to speak to other interns, organised by HR and by the end of it we could comfortably organize events and meet up of our own accord
The Sunbury office was really easy to get to from London and places around the office were cheaper than London but I lived in London so didn't get to experience the cost of living in the area very much
Easy to get into London, so easy to access all the bars and clubs there!
There were a range of competitions such as TechnoFest & FlipCam which were really good in helping you get to know what other interns are up to and what an internship in their discipline may be like. There were also lots of Lunch&Learns where you could learn about a vast range of jobs outside your background and hear about invaluable career experience first hand from senior professionals in the company. There were also many after work socials with my team as well as other interns.
