The Role
A placement at BP is exceptional. I was afforded excellent training opportunities as well as given real, valuable work roles to perform. I loved every minute of it and cannot recommend the placement more.
From the very first day my team were very welcoming and inclusive. I got on amazingly well with everyone and people were always happy to help me out whenever I needed it.
My Line Manager and other members of the team who I sought work from were extremely supportive and happy to give up their time in order to benefit me. In addition to a Line Manager and the other members of the team, Interns at BP are offered a Mentor, who provides support and guidance for issues that perhaps might not be appropriate to ask your line manager about.
On a daily basis the workload fluctuated but was always manageable. As part of my role was dealing with clients, the workload naturally differed depending on the stage of each client on our order schedule. When the work load became too much or too little I knew I could always ask my team for support, however.
From the very first day I was given tasks that were vital to the business and, had they not been performed by myself, would have necessitated a paid employee to be hired to perform them. Within 2 months I was trusted to single-handedly manage one aspect of the business for 2 weeks whilst my line manager was on annual leave. Even so, I still had support from other members of the team who were there if needed. At BP you're treated like an adult and expected to manage your time and responsibility accordingly.
BP instils a strong sense of discipline and time management in to their interns and I am looking forward to taking this with me in to future education and work. My personal and social skills have also come on a long way in the time I spent at BP, which is something that has developed as a result of working closely with colleagues and clients on a daily basis.
The Company
The general atmosphere was relaxed, yet there was a clear expectation that we were here to perform a job. In quieter periods people will wander over for a chat and there were even games machines to help people unwind.
The placement was extremely well thought-out at all stages from the initial recruitment all the way through to working day-to-day and receiving training.
The company invested significantly in us before we even started work, with an induction designed to ease us in to the company. Training was provided and regular contact with HR was much appreciated.

The Graduate opportunities at BP are amazing, with great salaries, great jobs and they're a solid platform for a future career. BP has scaled back some of its graduate positions this year, however that hasn't affected my chosen discipline. I'm hopeful for a job with BP after University.
The Culture
The social scene was alright, I think it largely depends on the group of interns that BP take on in your location, as well as the location you're based in.
Extremely cheap, although there was a trade off in that there wasn't much to do in the area.
Not the best within the area that I was based, however you're on placement to work and so going out isn't the most important thing. That's what Uni is for!
The interns got involved with a number of activities outside of work, not just with BP (which included Football, Golf, Cricket and book clubs amongst other things), but also in the local area. However, again this would largely depend on the area that you're based in as some are busier than others.
