The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed my internship at BP. Because of the vast amount of sites I was able to visit my environment was ever changing and I was always on my toes and meeting new people.
I was treated with respect throughout the internship and was always given praise where I had done a good job. This made me feel valued by my team.
I was given many valuable insights from my line manager, not just on the technical side but also concerning project and supply chain management and the management of people.
I was rarely ever bored during the internship and as I was put in charge of my own learning I was always able to find new things to do and new people to speak to.
I was responsible for my own learning and planning my activities, but was not ever responsible for delivering on targets that would impact on the business, however this was not necessarily possible in my specific placement.
I have learned many valuable skills that will help me in my career in the energy sector. I hope to apply some of them throughout my career.
The Company
I worked in a variety of different offices and therefore atmospheres. Pretty much all of them were nice places to be with welcoming and friendly people.
HR did a very good job in the administration side of things, and my line manager ensured that I had the resources required to have an internship that best benefited myself.
I traveled all over the UK, stayed in nice hotels, ate in nice restaurants and wanted for nothing during an incredible learning experience.
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
National Travel
Company Parties/Events
I would very much like to return to BP.
The Culture
There was a very good social scene set up as many of us stayed in Î÷¹ÏÊÓƵ flats together. The only downside of this was that if you didn't get along with someone you were stuck around them all the time.
Aberdeen is a very expensive place to live. The accommodation was expensive and decent bars charged quite high prices. Not London but not too far off!
It was decent, had worse had better. I'm sure there were areas left unexplored but there was nothing to write home about.
I played football weekly that was organized by a graduate but because I was travelling so much I rarely had the opportunity to join in this sort of activity. However, it was worth it for 2.5 months just for the learning experience.
