The Role
I'm very glad to have done the 12 month placement with BP, certainly towards the latter end of the placement where i was able to take on projects which really interested me and which carried a good slice of responsibility.
During Q3 and Q4 of my placement i had enough experience under my belt to take on more substantial work assignments, many of which turned out to be helpful to not only my manager but to the wider team around me.
Weekly meetings were held with my manager to discuss anything on my mind be it current work projects to other departments that i would like to gain some experience with. Furthermore, every intern is assigned a mentor who is available at any time should you need them.
I was the first intern in my department therefore the workload was too light during Q1 and Q2. However, during Q3 and Q4 it picked up a great deal and i was involved in a variety of projects which meant that i was always busy but without feeling inundated.
Naturally at the start it was fairly limited however during the last 9 months of the placement this changed and nearly all the projects that i was assigned were for higher management, moreover, my manager gave me a free rein as too how to go about them.
Even though the placement was commercial and i'm studying engineering the main skills that were developed were more interpersonal such as networking.
The Company
Very friendly with everyone having a good sense of humor.
The placement was very well organised. Initially it may have been slightly disorganised but that was to expected as i was the first intern for that particular department. However, every other intern at BP had a clear set of roles etc when they arrived.
I was encouraged to go and visit other offices across the UK and to take any training days that i felt could be useful.

Company Parties/Events
Very.
The Culture
Very much so, especially with the other summer interns and grads.
Hull was pretty cheap, especially rent.
No london, but it was pretty good.
Not too much associated with the company but plenty externally.
