About You
The insight day was a fantastic opportunity to see how BP runs and also whether the Wells industry is something that would interest me. Being able to use the brand new on site training facility to experience how the drilling engineers are trained before going onto the rig was very memorable and an experience no other insight day would have provided.
The whole time BP staff were very friendly and chatty and more than willing to answer questions in detail. We were provided with high quality food for breakfast and lunch (although I would of been more than happy with just a sandwich!). There was also plenty of goodies given to us and so it felt like BP wanted me to be there and wanted us all to apply for their graduate schemes.
Great guidance given on the BP intern and graduate application tip, with some very useful tips always given!
The only skill I was taught was about interview technique, however I will certainly use this technique to add to my chances when applying for graduate schemes!
The Company
The day began at 9:30 and we were constantly busy until before I had even realised it was 4:30 and the day had ended!
All of the early engagement staff were very welcoming and chatty and the area we were based was very open and welcoming
As it was only a discovery day we did not get any specific training or development. However we did get to experience the newly built training facility (which has not been used by staff yet as it is not officially opened until the end of the month). This gave us a taster of what the training experience would be like. Also they let a vast amount of staff take time away from their work to answer our questions which again was a decent investment as they are willing to reduce productivity to host us.
As it was only one day and I did not get a full insight on what it is like to work for BP. However I did get to understand how the company runs and also what the staff are like. We also got a tour of the campus which showed what a nice environment BP provide for their staff.
BP have five main values, which were discussed to us as this is the way that they feel the company runs so well.
Everything Else
Firstly 4 current employees of the company gave us talks about their roles within BP which then gave us the opportunity to ask them questions. Secondly over lunch a vast number of staff joined us to sit and discuss any further questions. This was a great opportunity and I could not think of a better networking opportunity for a one day visit.
Although one person briefly discussed there are opportunities nobody went into detail about this and it would have been nice to have been given some photographs and examples.
