    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • There were lots of additional activities to do as well as work in the office.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • The team events that were organised helped me to become more involved with what was going on. As an intern I think that it's important to understand what questions need to be asked and what you can find out for yourself.

    3/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Regular meetings with my supervisor and line manager ensured that my project was well supported.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • The days varied from being not so busy at the start of the internship to really picking up pace towards the end.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • My project was fairly independent. However, there were a couple of times when my supervisor instructed me to do things a bit differently. I would have liked to have had more contact with colleagues in other departments.

    3/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I now understand more about process engineering. I found that the mechanical engineering skills that I learned weren't as useful as I thought they would be.

    4/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • I thought that the atmosphere was generally very relaxed and I enjoyed working in the office.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Generally it was well organised. Towards the start there were a couple of times when the outcomes of my project were changed which wasn't too helpful. This was soon fixed though.

    3/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I was allowed to go on several site visits to gain practical engineering skills.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Subsidised Canteen

    National Travel

    Financial Bonus

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • We were never actually told the actual percentage of interns that would be likely to get a job offer. However, they did let us know that since we'd already made it through several interviews and an assessment centre the odds were in our favour.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement Î÷¹ÏÊÓƵs/colleagues?
  • I really liked this part. We stayed in Î÷¹ÏÊÓƵ halls and this meant that there was a close knit community of interns.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Aberdeen is a fairly expensive city to live in due to the large amount of offshore workers. Family and friends visiting is extremely expensive as hotel prices are high.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • The nightclubs and bars are quite close together which is nice as not a lot of travel is involved. Aberdeen is a small city though so there isn't as many places to go as some of the bigger cities.

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Many opportunities were provided to go out with interns and colleagues alike.

    4/5
