About You
Definitely an enjoyable day and really useful too !
All the staff at BP were really friendly, from the engineers who had worked there for 26 years+ to the graduates they had on the graduate schemes and the event organisers.
There was a lot of guidance in the lunchtime networking session with people who had worked for BP for 10 years+, this was extremely helpful and gave an insight into what its really like to work for a multinational company such as BP.
Improved networking skills. Gave a lot of good information about applying for internships in the future.
The Company
Brilliantly structured, well done to the events manager who organised it !
Calm and relaxed - all the people there were friendly and it was good to meet other people from other Universities across the UK who were studying similar degree programmes.
They let us meet senior engineers who had taken time out of their work day to come and speak to us. Gave us a tour around their complex and showed us some of the software they use and projects that they are currently working on.
Definitely gave a good insight into what it would be like to have a full time job at BP.
It helped tremendously as BP graduates gave examples of some of their friends who went into banking and finance with companies like Goldman Sachs and they said about the crazy hours (like 18 hours a day !) and workload that they have there. In comparison at BP its much more relaxed, just like your typical 9-5 job but with so many opportunities to travel all over the world to places like Singapore, Australia, Gulf of Mexico and Angola. BP also pays quite competitively when comparing to salaries that the banks pay to graduates now as well.
Useful, as it showed me things about working for a company like BP would be like in comparison to other career sectors.
Everything Else
Train fares were reimbursed
Loads of opportunities, loads of question and answer session with senior engineers, graduates on BP's graduate scheme and at the lunchtime networking event you could ask so many questions about BP and what it was like to work there and you always got a full detailed response about everything.
Pretty good, the lunchtime newtworking was the best out of these.
Yes, the graduates on the graduate scheme with BP told us that they have loads of socials throughout the year, involving bowling, night out, football tournaments - sounded really good and as there are so many recent graduates at BP there is a good young graduate vibe there.
Definitely worth going to one ! What are you waiting for ?!
