About You
The Day provided a useful insight into what it was like to work at the Sunbury office for BP in subsurface. More parts of the day more exciting and interesting such as an energy game played towards the end of the day, as well as going into the 'hive' to understand more about what is on an oil rig. The day also included talks from members of the BP team who were at various stages of the graduate scheme as well as some more experienced members of staff. I also enjoyed speaking to members of BP over lunch.
I got the impression that BP was a company that cared about its employees. With the structured day and scheduled talks from senior people and graduates I got the impression that BP had put a lot of effort into organising the day and so I felt valued in that respect.
We were given quite a lot of guidance about applying for the future opportunities with BP at the end of the day which was useful, including information about the application process and deadlines. This will be useful when it comes to applying for future opportunities with BP. The guidance about application forms and interviews will be useful for BP and other companies.
Gave me an understanding of the different roles available at BP and perhaps which modules would be better to do for the Geoscience route, as well as informing me about some of the roles which I was not aware of before. Also informed me about more opportunities such as the Shadow an Intern event as well as applying for the internships/graduate scheme. It was useful to see the graduate Î÷¹ÏÊÓƵs pathways and how they had progressed from their degree.
The Company
Got given a timetable at the beginning of the day but seemed to always be a bit behind this resulting in the end of the day seeming rushed to me. Perhaps would have been better by having the day longer or by including less in the day. Otherwise the structure was good
The variety of tasks ensured that the day wasn't boring and that there was always something to be doing. The atmosphere also seemed very relaxed and welcoming which is the impression that I get the BP workplace is like generally.
Didn't receive any training and development, it was only an insight day.
As this was an insight day it gave a good impression of what it would be like to work there. I was able to speak to people currently working there about their roles, as well as people who had just started working and were able to instruct me as to what to expect to do if I started working there. Additionally, I was able to understand more about the training that is provided to new hires, as well as the activities available outside of work.
Gave me a good understanding of the company culture and what it would be like to work there. I got this through asking the employees as well as my own impressions of the workplace and environment.
Useful. It has allowed me to make a more informed decision about future options that are available to me, I would recommend it for this reason as prior to this event I was unsure as to what role and area I would have preferred to pursue as a career.
Everything Else
The expenses for the insight day were reimbursed quite quickly compared to events with other companies that I have attended.
There were a lot of opportunities to meet employees of the company and ask them the questions that I had. The employees were able to answer all of the questions that I asked them.
There wasn't really a 'social event' opportunity, However the networking was useful as I was able to talk to a variety of people who worked in different roles in the company.
I found out that there was a range of activities that people were able to do outside of work. Most of the employees that I spoke to seemed to participate in at least one activity.
I would recommend this insight to a friend. The expenses were paid and I was able to learn a lot about the roles and working at the company. I feel that it was a useful opportunity.
