The Role
It was varied and interesting. I especially liked the research aspect of the internship but not so much the general admin duties.
My colleagues were very kind and supported me fully. I had a mentor who arranged fortnightly one-to-ones where I could go over my objectives for the next few weeks.
Again, my colleagues were a great support.
This varied as I sometimes had days where there were plenty of things to be done and deadlines to be met. These were then followed by days where I could spend as long as I wanted writing a guide or researching for my latest project. All in all, though, I found the balance fine.
A good level of responsibility was given to me and my views and research was taken quite seriously which I found pleasing.
They gave me a greater understanding of working the charity sector and I feel I have become more adaptable and improved my communication and organisational skills.
The Company
The atmosphere was lovely - my mentor was very kind and it was a pleasure to work with my colleagues.
It was very well organised. We were given two days of intern induction prior to our internship which helped us get to know the other interns. I did, however, think 2 days was rather excessive.
I feel I am a lot more independent and confident in my abilities. I have developed my interpersonal skills and also my ability to write eloquently.
I am pleased with my experience with the company. They do seem to care and value a great deal about their staff and I would definitely consider working for them in the future.
The Culture
Yes, emails were often sent around interns to organise weekly meetups.
Central London is generally quite expensive so this was quite expensive
There was a pub very near but other than that, for any more modern places you had to get the tube to areas like Covent Garden etc.
There were lots of opportunities. I should have probably taken more but I was constantly tired, trying to balance uni life and my internship!
