The Role
The internship within IST (Integrated, Supply and Trading) provided a good level of training, insight into the oil market and an overview of the organisation.
I was quickly given a high level of responsbility and and the work completed was valued by staff throughout the business.
Weekly catch-ups with manager as well as a mid-internship review and final appraisal. Support was if I asked for it otherwise I was left to self manage the project rather than being micro-managed
The workload varied throughout the summer, some days I added to the project deliverable, other days I was at offsite meetings or in telecoms/ internal meetings.
Responsbility was given from day one, the project was to be used as part of the work undertaken by the rest of the team and presented to executive level.
Skills developed in people management, communication and quantiltative analysis will be useful not only returning to university but in my future career.
The Company
The atmosphere was fairly focused on work, however the team were friendly. The trading floors were more lively than where I was located in the building
Good structure throughout - clear timetable of events given
Attended a number of internal/ external training courses across the 11 weeks.

Working from home
All interns from Canary Wharf office recieved job offers after completing the internship.
The Culture
The team had regular lunches/ evening socials. As interns the social scene was regular, BP paid for a number of meals and drinks during my time at the company
Being in London things are expensive, but you are well renumerated during the internship
Generally drinks after work in CW- then head onwards into London if you wanted to stay out longer
Graduates invited interns on social events. The company had a volunteering day for interns. Sports teams were open for interns to take part in.
