The Role
I found the work interesting and challenging. Having such a large internship programme allows you to meet a lot of other people in a similar situation. This helps form strong working and social relationships.
Everyone is the office always has time to answer any questions you may have, It is a very relaxed atmosphere.
You are given support where it is needed. However I got the impression they didn't want to spoon feed you everything like they do at university. This helps them see how you think your way around a problem.
On the majority of days I had a good balance of work, where I would already know my tasks for the day before i entered work. Things started off quite slowly however there is always a settling in period whenever you join somewhere new.
I would say i had a good deal of responsilbility for my project. I was making most of the decisions, however i did rely heavily on another employee for his abilities with script writing.
The knowledge i've taken on board in terms of the oil and gas industry is invaluable. The way in which a tackle a problem has also changed. It is now much more methodical and well thought out.
The Company
Everyone was very relaxed and easy going. You never felt like someone was looking over your shoulder. BP places a great deal of trust in their employees.
The project was looking into relatively new technology and therefore sometimes felt a bit disorganised in that we didn't always know what to expect and what the next stage would be.
There is many "lunch and learns" and presentations you can attend that can expand your knowledge of the business.

BP is a company i'd definitely consider working for if offered a job. They have a great deal of respect for their employees health and well being. They work hard and get good results whilst maintaining good morale in the work force.
The Culture
This years group of interns were very keen for going out and doing things round about. It definitely helped having 15 of us staying in the royal holloway halls of residence. For any future interns this is something i'd strongly recommend.
In egham things were reasonably priced. However heading into London just became very expensive in travel and socialising.
Considering the cost of things the nightlife was pretty good. Good Î÷¹ÏÊÓƵ area round about Royal Holloway as well.
I went wakeboarding, played 5asides football, played rugby for BP, played in a charity rounders match and saw a few bits of london.
