The Role
Good to get an insight into the industry. First experience of Engineering outside of Uni so interesting.
My work was actually being used to help the project, some projects not so "real" though according to other interns.
Supervisor was very helpful day-to-day but only 3 meetings with my supervisor and mentor never contacted me.
Seemed to be either overwhelmed with work (which was good, kept me busy) or had very little to do. Work came in swarms.
My work could have been done by someone else, it was more to help me learn. It was reviewed after submission to be checked over but no changes were made.
Definitely helpful to develop skills by working in industry but not much technical skills developed.
The Company
Good banter although I was in a project office, the main office is a bit more uptight.
Lots of events organised by HR and move into the company was seamless. Very structured system.
Went to various site visits but training offered was almost all optional on-line modules. Helpful though. Also offered presentation skills training.
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Subsidised/Company Gym
Lots of opportunities to go down different paths depending on preference.
The Culture
Started off really fun but slowed a bit after the first month. Out every weekend with other interns/grads.
Expensive, internship was paid so didn't feel too bad about spending though.
Few clubs but enough people around to make it a good laugh most nights.
Mostly organised by interns but still stuff going on every weekend, went go-karting and clay-pigeon shooting which were fun.
