The Role
Was a great experience. Really enjoyed speaking to the graduates and finding out about the working environment. The business simulation was insightful into how an oil company works and the supervisors made it quite enjoyable.
I felt my questions were answered to a good level and the feedback i gave on the last day was valued.
The feedback i received was limited but seeing as i only had two opportunities to be assessed it was more than I expected. It may have been more effective if i was assessed by the same person for the two days and then they could see how i changed in relation to the feedback more thoroughly.
There were tasks scheduled throughout my stay but I did not feel over worked. The first day could have had a bit more tasks or experiences before going to the health club for dinner, also after dinner it would have been nice to do something.
I was not given any responsibility per say but during the business simulations you could take varying degrees of responsibility within your groups.
Only a small amount of the information i obtained in my visit can be applied to my course as it does not have a heavy petroleum industry content. However, i do believe that the experience was very valuable going forward in terms of insight into the industry and the opportunities available at BP.
The Company
All people involved were very friendly and accommodating. In the business simulation the atmosphere was competitive but relaxed as was the feedback and evening dinner.
I thought that the discovery day was very well organized and can think of no delays or breaks in the schedule which were the fault of the organizers.
I was given access to a business simulation that is usually reserved for more senior members of the company and given in depth talks from experienced officials.
Healthcare/Dental
I would very much like to work for BP as a result of the Discovery Day+. The working environment is very appealing and the range of roles on offer is very appealing.
The Culture
For the two nights we were there there was a gathering of people in the bar at the hotel once the scheduled activities had finished for the day.
There were no living costs for the short period I was down at Sunbury.
We stayed in the hotel for both nights of the Discovery Day+.
The health club and associated sports clubs would provide a number of opportunities to get involved outside of work.
