Overview
I am actively involved in projects within each team I've worked in and often going out on site. I often collaborate with graduates and more senior surveyors. With Valuations I have been involved in compiling due diligence and finding info on comparables. With Property Management I have been involved in altering tenancy schedules and reading over leases and extracting key info. With Development I have been involved in writing disposal reports.
Skills
In Valuation I have learnt what information to ask agents for when calling to find info on comparables and learnt about which aspects of a site is relevant to note particularly with issues that come with knotweed for industrial sites. In property management I have learnt what it means to have a good relationship with centre managers and dealing with tenant issues. In development, I have learnt how to spot potential in sites and which aspects to take into account when looking at development.
Responsibilities
I was trusted with a lot of responsibility, particularly with finding info on comparables to go towards valuation reports such as with the Evesham shopping centre project With Property management I was given the responsibility of extracting info to go into quarterly reports for Yardley. With development, I was writing my own disposal report on Gorsty Hill Farm.
Support & Guidance
The graduates in each department I have worked in have been very helpful and accommodating, answering with confidence any queries I had. Furthermore, the more senior surveyors were entrusting me with more responsibility as I often enjoy being thrown in at the deep end. I had a catchups to ensure my summer internship was going well.
Culture
Very inclusive and empowering, as a summer intern from the get-go in every team I have worked in I have felt actively included in projects. I felt entrusted to carry on with my own responsibilities in projects I collaborated with other team members on.
Your Impressions
I really have enjoyed my placement, I have warmed to my co workers and enjoy the office environment within Savills Birmingham. I enjoyed my work to the extent that I would be very much interested in the Graduate programme for Savills. I can see the Savills ethos regarding empowerment actively conveyed in the office environment.
Yes
Get as stuck in as possible from the get-go. Do not be afraid to ask questions. Don't be afraid to get thrown in at the deep end, that's one of the best ways to learn. Get to know as many people as possible around the office and be polite. You are here for 6 weeks so make the most of it and leave on a good impression.
