Overview
I am involved heavily in making reports, integrating data from other sources and building the foundational application for smoother flow of data across the different departments involved.
Skills
Yes, I had a chance to get involved a lot of different teams across AstraZeneca. I learnt the whole MS power suite with much more depth.
Responsibilities
I was given a lot of responsibility from the get go, with constant support of my manager, there was no spoon feeding or low-quality work, I was given a chance to communicate my ideas directly to the leadership and get appropriate feedback on it. I am really grateful that I was able to pursue ideas and bring meaningful changes to the processes.
Support & Guidance
I really appreciated the support I got from my manager. After the initial briefing, I was encouraged to dive right in and take ownership of my work, which I enjoy. We had weekly check-ins where I could share my progress and get any feedback or guidance I needed along the way. It was the right balance of independence and support, and it made a big difference for me.
Culture
The culture is quite good, and free of micro-management. Although, there is a bit of process fragmentation for allocation of necessary resources, which sometimes proved to be quite frustrating.
Your Impressions
I really enjoyed my placement鈥攊t was a great experience and a real eye-opener in the best way. Getting a closer look at the corporate world helped me figure out whether this is the kind of career I鈥檇 like to pursue in the future.
Yes
My advice would be to stay open and speak up about the opportunities you鈥檙e interested in. Make sure you鈥檙e working on something you鈥檙e genuinely passionate about鈥攁fter all, 12 months is a long time to spend on something you don鈥檛 really enjoy. Take your interview prep seriously and let your enthusiasm for the placement shine through. And most importantly, remember to take it easy and enjoy the experience!
