Overview
As a Project Manager Intern at Amazon, I manage project documentation, coordinate meetings, and track deadlines. I update trackers, analyze data, and facilitate meetings weekly. I'm working on my internship project, monitoring deliverables and risks across teams. I work with engineering, design, and business teams, applying Amazon's Leadership Principles to deliver projects.
Skills
During my Project Manager internship at Amazon, I've developed both technical and professional skills. Coordinating cross-functional teams has strengthened my stakeholder management and meeting facilitation abilities. Leading multiple projects over the past six months has improved my decision-making and influence without authority. I've enhanced my prioritization skills while managing various project deadlines and deliverables.
Responsibilities
During my my internship at Amazon, I was entrusted with full ownership of three projects. I managed their complete lifecycle from planning to delivery, including leading team meetings, making key decisions, and presenting to senior leadership. This involved coordinating resources, managing timelines, resolving issues, and delivering results. The level of responsibility helped me develop strong project management skills in a real-world setting.
Support & Guidance
During my internship at Amazon, I received structured support through weekly 1:1s with my manager who provided regular feedback and guidance on my projects. The broader team was always accessible for questions and helped me navigate Amazon's systems and processes. I also had a mentor who offered career advice and helped me understand the company culture. While I was given independence to lead my projects, I knew exactly who to reach out to when needed. This balance of autonomy and support created an ideal learning environment where I could take ownership while having a strong safety net of experienced professionals to guide me.
Culture
At Amazon, the culture is fast-paced and driven by the Leadership Principles, particularly customer obsession and ownership. The work environment encourages direct communication, data-driven decisions, and risks. Teams are collaborative but also expect high levels of individual ownership. Despite the intense work pace, colleagues are supportive and willing to help. The culture promotes learning through doing, and there's an acceptance that mistakes happen as long as you learn from them. Meetings are focused, decisions are made quickly, and everyone is expected to voice their opinions, regardless of their level.
Your Impressions
I thoroughly enjoyed my internship at Amazon, particularly the opportunity to travel and work across different locations. Working alongside talented professionals at different stages of their careers provided valuable insights into potential growth paths. Leading real projects while learning from experienced mentors was incredibly motivating.
