Technically developed skills and knowledge in ISO9001, ISO17025, Internal Auditing, Quality Management Systems, lab equipment and methods, data ethics and policies, corporate environment and regulations, Microsoft suite
Responsibilities
I was given a lot of responsibility in my role, seen through the undertaking and subsequent leading of multiple projects. Weekly and monthly updates on these projects were conducted to ensure progress and development. If there were other areas of interest outside of Quality Assurance, that I had, I was able to start projects in them, gaining more responsibility. Dependant on your project and time management skills, the workload will vary.
Support & Guidance
I received a significant amount of support and guidance from my university and BAT. The placement team were exceptional in their ongoing and thorough support. Mentors and team buddies were also assigned which further granted us a source of support. My team in particular (Quality Assurance) were the best team I could've asked for. Their continuous guidance and support from the start to where I am now, has been nothing less than outstanding.
Culture
It was not as I expected. The perception I had of working in corporate prior to starting turned out to be completely different to working in BAT. Everyone is extremely nice and supportive, I have no bad things to say about anyone I have come across. From individuals you work with daily, to those high up in the organisation, they all contributed to a truly inclusive environment, whoever you are and wherever you come from
Your Impressions
Very much enjoyed my placement in BAT. I am absolutely glad I had decided to go to BAT for my placement. It has provided with skills that I didn't know you needed, as well as developed those already had. The opportunities that are open to me after this placement have increased tremendously, whether it pertains to my future career, university experience and even personal development, what I have learnt and gained is pleasantly surprising
Yes
Say yes to as many experiences, social activities and projects that come your way, every opportunity is a chance to gain and develop skills. Be honest, truthful and rather direct in your interactions and meetings. With the time that you have working full time, as opposed to university, try new things and explore and travel. There was a previous perception that you won't have time do anything working 9-5, though it is the opposite.
