Overview
My daily tasks includes leading and managing the project development works including creating project plans, learning plans, carrying out product development tests and analyse results to look for spaces of improvements. Engaging with other projects to provide support and collaborate with colleagues from different departments across the business and external suppliers for project work. I also explore other work streams to understand more about the business.
Skills
I have learnt how to create product development assessments that looks for the potential risks and challenges and how to resolve them even before the issues occur. I have developed good project management and communication skills. I have also improved my presentation skills, organisation, time management.
Responsibilities
I was given the responsibility to manage the use of a Lab scale pilot plant pipe line, support 2-3 projects for lab tests and the scope to also come take over new projects that I can lead. Overall, it was a good amount of responsibilities that i was given that wasn't a lot and was also interesting to do. I also got enough time to explore the business outside my work.
Support & Guidance
I got good support and guidance during the placement. I got instant support and guidance from not only by my line manager, but also from my wider team and colleagues I worked with. Alongside, the placement team also supported us throughout the placement to ensure we had a good time there.
Culture
The company has a diverse background of people working. There are people from various country, culture and educational background. There are also opportunities to celebrate the cultures and it was a really good atmosphere to work in. The work was based on the trust which is why, I never felt like I was forced to do anything. Everyone also treats each other with well respect and everyone has the opportunity to give their opinions.
Your Impressions
I have really enjoyed my placement. With 20 interns working together, it was a good opportunity to socialise and go group works. Even do activities outside work. I also got the opportunity to meet so many skilled people, learn about their work and experience. I also got chances of team bonding. I got to learn a lot about the business and the best part is my colleagues were happy to help me whenever I needed.
Yes
I would say to not be too stressed or worried. You will get guidance, time and space to learn and develop. Go with an open mind as you will have the opportunity to explore many aspects of the business. Never be afraid to ask for help or support as everyone at BAT are very friendly and helpful. Make the most out of your placement. Network with people, see what others are working on as that always helps you learn as well.
