    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • Support the Head of SRR and Quality Insurance Officer in ensuring that local and corporate policies/procedures and regulations, as well as local laws are implemented across the GB & Ireland functions Develop an awareness of across all sites ensuring local responsibility and accountability for internal procedures and policies, internal control systems, business continuity, and security and risk Undertake internal audits and inspections of Process Organisation systems and trackers and deliver bespoke target ICS training across the business Assist Quality Insurance Officer to deliver the ICS cycle (all four stages) Help to promote and audit, Process (Policy and Procedure) Safety (Occupational Health & Safety), Resilience (Business Continuity and Risk Management) and best practice across GB & Ireland functions including Supply Chain and Logistics, Customer Services, Sales, Marketing, and Finance

  • Internal Auditing – Gained practical experience conducting audits and inspections of internal control systems and procedures across multiple departments. Policy and Compliance Awareness – Developed a strong understanding of local and corporate policies, regulations, and internal procedures, supporting their implementation across the business. Risk and Business Continuity – Built knowledge of risk management and business continuity practices, contributing to a more resilient operational environment. Training Delivery – Delivered tailored ICS training sessions, enhancing communication and knowledge-sharing across teams. Cross-Functional Collaboration – Worked effectively with diverse departments including Supply Chain, Sales, Marketing, and Finance, strengthening teamwork and stakeholder engagement skills.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • Yes, I was given significant responsibility during my placement. I helped with internal audits, delivered training, and supported the implementation of key compliance and risk management processes. I worked across various departments, helping ensure policies and controls were followed, which developed my confidence and ability to manage important tasks independently.

  • I received a good amount of support and guidance during my placement. My manager and colleagues were approachable and always willing to help. I was given clear direction when needed but also trusted to take initiative, which helped me develop professionally while knowing support was available if required.

  • The company culture and general atmosphere were excellent. The environment was professional yet friendly, and collaboration was strongly encouraged across teams. I felt valued and supported throughout my placement, with a clear focus on development, open communication, and continuous improvement. It was a great place to learn and contribute.

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I enjoyed my placement. The work was varied and engaging, and I felt like I was making a meaningful contribution. The supportive team environment and opportunities to learn across different departments made the experience both enjoyable and valuable for my personal and professional development.

  • I would advise others applying to BSH to be open to learning and take every opportunity to get involved across different departments. Show initiative, ask questions, and make the most of the support available. It's a great environment to develop professionally, especially if you're proactive and willing to step outside your comfort zone.
