Overview
Creating and developing financial, and performance-based, reports for internal and external stakeholders. This involved processing and analysing complex sets of data, and telling the story in a format that is easy to understand the key points from. Reports are ran on a daily, weekly and monthly basis, and there is opportunity to develop them further as you gain more experience- this is the most rewarding part of the job.
Skills
I have greatly developed my skills in data analytics during my time in this role- being able to show the key points from a large set of quantitative data is a skill that is very useful, and transferrable, so that others can understand what needs to be done to improve performance. I have also greatly developed in how I present data in an aesthetically pleasing format, that is easy to look at and understand.
Responsibilities
I was given a large amount of responsibility, away from my day-to-day work of running reports. My line manager encouraged me to take up 'extra' opportunities, that allowed me to create and develop new reports for internal stakeholders, thus allowing me to expand my network. I was also given opportunities to present in front of other teams around the business, which is a useful skill I have developed.
Support & Guidance
A good amount- there was a month 'handover' period from the previous intern, to myself, where I was able to pick up fairly quickly how to run the usual daily, weekly and monthly reports required of me. Naturally, as my placement went on I gained more skills and responsibility, and wanted to further the work I was producing. I was able to learn off more senior members of the team, who helped willingly.
Culture
The company culture is corporate, but is relatively relaxed. You are expected to wear smart-casual attire to the office, and this sets the tone for the general atmosphere. People around the company are friendly and happy to spend time helping you, which is great for personal development.
Your Impressions
I have enjoyed my placement to a large extent- the team I work in is very friendly and it is a pleasure to work with them. I have developed a lot both in my skills of data analysis, presentation, and reporting, as well as my confidence in presenting and networking with people around the business. The work is rewarding, which is fulfilling.
Yes
Be yourself- the company culture is a friendly one, where people can express themselves. The diverse culture around the business is one that makes it incredibly welcoming. People don't expect you to be a complete person with all the skills to do the job- a placement is an opportunity to learn and develop these, so there is no pressure in this respect.
