    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • In my role, I support the execution of digital initiatives across all fleet website structures and content, ensuring consistency and alignment with overall marketing strategies. I assist in organising both internal and external events, as well as managing agency relationships and sponsorships. A key part of my role involves producing marketing reports and insights by developing new dashboards and reports based on stakeholder requirements. I also manage agency communication, providing updates and availability as needed. Additionally, I support the sales and marketing teams with presentation preparation, and assist with various team coordination tasks such as managing diary availability, booking rooms, processing purchase orders and invoices, and overseeing the progress of key marketing initiatives and supplier management.

  • Yes, I have both developed existing skills and learned new ones in this role. I have developed my analytical skills through the creation of data-driven marketing reports and dashboards, as well as producing email reporting. I鈥檝e also improved my communication and stakeholder management skills through regular collaboration with internal teams and external partners. Additionally, I鈥檝e gained a deeper understanding of digital marketing practices and website content management, which has broadened my overall marketing knowledge.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • Yes, I was given a lot of responsibility during my placement. My line manager trusted me to get all my tasks done efficiently and to a high standard. We had 2 one to ones a week where she would check in and ensure I was getting on alright. I was trusted to manage key aspects of digital marketing initiatives, including overseeing website content updates and supporting the execution of broader digital strategies. I played an active role in coordinating internal and external events, managing agency relationships, and ensuring smooth communication between stakeholders. Additionally, I handled important administrative tasks such as processing purchase orders and tracking key marketing activities regarding our budget, which helped ensure operational efficiency. These responsibilities allowed me to develop confidence in my abilities and contribute meaningfully to the team.

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • I received a great deal of support and guidance throughout my placement. I had weekly one-to-one meetings with my line manager, which provided a consistent opportunity to discuss my progress, ask questions, and receive valuable feedback. In addition, we had regular team check-ins that helped me stay connected with the wider team, align on priorities, and gain a better understanding of ongoing projects. I was also enrolled in several company-run training programmes, which equipped me with new skills and knowledge relevant to my role. This structured support system played a key role in helping me develop professionally and feel confident in my responsibilities.

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • The company culture is very diverse and inclusive. Everyone is very friendly and always has made me feel like I can ask for help when needed. This ensured I had a positive experience as the atmosphere can affect my work.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I really enjoyed the opportunities my placement provided, particularly the variety of tasks I was involved in and the chance to develop new skills. I found the work engaging and appreciated being trusted with meaningful responsibilities that allowed me to contribute to the team. However, one aspect I found less enjoyable was the limited office contact time. Most of my team would only come in once a week, which sometimes made it challenging to build stronger in-person connections or collaborate more spontaneously. Despite this, the overall experience was positive and valuable for my professional development.

  • My advice to anyone applying to Volkswagen Financial Services would be to just be yourself and ask any questions. Everyone is very friendly and willing to help so don't be afraid to speak up. Furthermore, I would take full advantage of the learning and development opportunities available.
