Overview
Involves assisting the internal audit team with audits across various business areas. This primarily focuses on the fieldwork stage of audits, including conducting sample checks, procedure reviews and attending meetings with auditees. On a monthly basis, I created presentations summarising audit actions due for closure through the year, with data visualisations created through Tableau. This was presented by the Head of IA to the BoM. On a bi-annual basis, I created a presentation for the BoD involving similar data visualisations.
Skills
I have developed my understanding of various data tools such as Microsoft Excel, as well as learnt new tools such as Tableau and QSR. Furthermore, I have developed my ability to be clear in points throughout fieldwork and meetings with auditees.
Responsibilities
Throughout my placement, my involvement in the fieldwork stage of audits increased, with a greater workload in areas such as sample checks, procedure reviews and audit research. Furthermore, I was responsible for the presentations to BoM and BoD as well as updating the procedures for each of these.
Support & Guidance
I assisted various team members throughout the year and therefore had the opportunity to learn under each of them. I additionally had my line manager supporting me in any instances that this was required, and had the Head of Internal Audit supporting me with any concerns I had when producing presentations.
Culture
Due to the vast number of undergraduates, the culture when settling in was very friendly and not at all intimidating.
Your Impressions
I massively enjoyed my placement due to the friendliness of my team as well as the other undergraduates. I was living with other undergraduates throughout the course of the year and therefore made great connections and friends.
