    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • A typical day consists of supporting management of strategic fleets of over 300 vehicles managing them operationally and developing strong relationships with customers. In the role, you have to handle complex queries regarding this and work with other stakeholders within the business to ensure that they are handled quickly and effectively. Projects also form a key part of the role, an example is working to replace ICE vehicles with EVs in both the car and LCV sectors. Generating reports on sales performance, salary sacrifice and opportunities to be sent to key stakeholders, allowing progress against targets to be tracked.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • Yes, I have learnt lots of skills whilst in the role. I have learnt lots of Excel skills and tricks using course such as Linkedin Learning. I also learnt how to use software such as Tableau and Salesforce. I also have had the opportunity to present at customer and retailer meetings, which have improved my public speaking. Organisation is also key in the role ensuring that customers are responded to quickly and issues are resolved effectively.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • Yes, I was given lots of responsibility and often spoke to customers as communication is a key part of the role. I had responsibility of both reporting on key metrics and running customer accounts in the absence of a Strategic Account manager. I would often take the lead on certain projects and see them through from start to finish, ensuring that the customer remained satisfied throughout.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • I received lots of support during my placement from my line manager, team and the wider business. I knew that if I got stuck or needed some support, someone would be able to help me to ensure that tasks or projects could still be competed. Training was also provided at the start of the role and overviews with different teams that I would go onto work with were also extremely helpful when I was settling into the role.

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • The company culture was very good and welcoming. Everyone was very friendly and always went out the way to support each other. I think you can tell this by the number of people that have stayed at the company for long tenures.

    Your Impressions

  • I really enjoyed my placement at VWFS. I was given lots of opportunities and I definitely grew as a person as the year went on. I learnt so much that I will be able to apply in my future career.

  • I would try to find out as much as I could both about the business and the industry in order to make my application stand out. I would try to add depth to the application and show that you have the skills needed to undertake the role.
