The Role
This internship placement gave me a great experience of the day-to-day practice of event management. On a daily basis I had a lot of responsibility and a variety of tasks to complete, including working on materials for the event, organising transport, and communicating with sponsors.
As the placement went on I got to know my team better and better. I had good support the whole way through but also got the opportunity to use my iniative.
Whilst the team is extremely busy, they were always helpful and took the time to explain how best to complete my tasks.
Right from the first week I was in the thick of things for an event that took place in Portugal. Rarely did I have a day where I was clock-watching as there was always things that needed doing.
On one particular event when my line manager was away on annual leave I had a lot of responsibility to organise and deal with issues with the event. I managed to cope with this and it really gave me the confidence that I could make it in the events sector and also feel that I was a member of the team.
Without question this internship has given me so much experience, even just within 3 months, of how to deal with a busy workload and a variety of tasks. It undoubtedly contributed to me gaining my job as a charity events organiser now.
The Company
General atmosphere was very good.
Very well organised. We had mid-internship training which was great, an induction at the beginning so you got to know fellow interns and learn about the organisation. Also there was an end of intern showcase which ended the placement in a really good way.
The Culture
I took part in lots of different events for Cancer Research UK both with my team and other departments within the charity.
