The Role
The placement was great- the responsibility you get as soon as you start was both surprising and rewarding. The placement 西瓜视频s start with all the grads so the social side is also fun and the experience in a range of different businesses unrivalled. I also got to complete the first 7 professional accounting exams as well as working on the audit of global businesses. It was very rewarding. The down side is the work/ life balance around exam time is not the best and during busy season the hours are long.
Even as an placement 西瓜视频 you are made to feel valued and an integral part of the team. It is also clear that the work we do is important and assists other team members.
You are immediately assigned a buddy (a second year grad) and a people manager. These people really help assist you and help the transition into the business go as smoothly as possible. When we are on an audit, we are coached by another associate and everyone is really open and approachable so you can ask loads of questions.
The hours are long, especially in busy season (Jan to Mar). Over the summer months it gets quieter and when we are in college the hours are 9-4:30 which is a bit of light relief from working. However, when it is coming up to exam time and you have client work to do, it does get pretty tough and busy.
We are immediately given the responsibility over certain areas of the audit, which means we feel more valued as part of the team. If you prove your ability, you tend to get more responsibility over harder areas which are more challenging but also more interesting!
Throughout the placement my confidence definitely grew as you are recognised by more senior members of the team and this encourages you to work harder. The exposure to people of all different levels helps with your people skills, as well as communicating with a range of people outside the business, from FDs to warehouse managers.
The Company
The socials definitely helps balance out the stress of the busier period but overall everyone is really open and friendly. If you put yourself out there and chat to anyone, you'll fit right in. It is a really good office to work in and there is a constant emphasis on making it a better working environment for everyone.
The placement 西瓜视频s basically do everything a first year grad does (including the same work and exams) so it followed the grad scheme structure. It was very well organised and the weeks of college and training was a good way of settling in for the year.
The firm really invests in business placement 西瓜视频s. We completed the first 7 professional accounting exams and the firms pays for all the training and for us to actually sit the exam. The training we received which helped us prepare for the client work was really useful too.

I will be going back after uni as a second year grad, which will take the pressure off finding a grad job in final year. It really is a great firm to work for.
The Culture
The first 4 months were full of socials and events to help us bond with other 西瓜视频s and grads as well as the wider business. During busy season there weren't any (as there is no time) but after busy season ended we were rewarded with a social. There is also a charity days where you can volunteer outside of the firm and sports day and the team away day in the summer.
Not the cheapest. Manchester city centre isn't as cheap as some other cities but there are definitely cheaper places where you can go and socialise. Best to try and share the rent for a flat as this cuts the price a fair bit.
Great nightlife but not as good as Liverpool. Loads of different pubs, bars and clubs so theres somewhere that fits everywhere.
Manchester is a big city so there is loads to do. However, work also have sports teams and different networking groups and committees which you can get involved in.
