About You
The programme was very enjoyable and offered a variety of events across the week. These included: networking, panels, drinks, desk shadowing and training. It was exceptionally well organised and offered an in-depth insight into what it means to work at Deutsche Bank. I would highly recommend it to anyone considering applying.
I felt exceptionally valued throughout my time at DB. Members of staff were always willing to help and asking questions was encouraged. All employees I encountered on the week were very friendly and made me feel valued as an intern. Getting exposure to the roles on the desk shadowing rotations was a particular highlight of this.
Guidance was always on offer, as previously mentioned, asking questions was encouraged. There was training sessions throughout the first two days that looked at offering a basic overview of the business and its associated divisions. From there, we gained more depth insight by speaking to employees in these respective areas.
The programme will be exceptionally valued in providing an introduction to finance. It's not going to relate to everyone's degrees because not everyone studies something finance related. However, it still builds the essential skills necessary to succeed at university; teamwork, motivation and drive. If you are interested in finance, this week is an excellent way to get started in showing your interest.
The Company
The week was exceptionally well structured. We were given the timetable well in advance and a variety of mediums of communication were used to ensure everyone was well-informed. The week offered a perfect variety of general training and personal connections with employees. Each session flowed well and something was gained from everything that was on offer.
The work atmosphere at DB was exceptional. The culture of the bank means that they greatly encourage diversity and that was immediately apparent. From the moment you step into the building, you are always greeted by a smile and the theme of friendliness continued throughout the week. From the members of staff to fellow interns, everyone was positive and always happy to chat.
Training was provided throughout the first two days. It was immediately apparent that DB was investing time in to making sure we were educated about the financial industry as a whole, and that was great. DB was also very keen on ensuring we built upon the week by encouraging us to keep in touch and always be learning more. It was great to see a company that is truly interested in the progress of the people it interacts with.
DB did this exceptionally well. By providing graduate panels, networking sessions and shadowing rotations, they made sure we had extended personal interaction with some of their recent graduates. We started with a basis of what it meant to be a DB graduate, then we were offered the opportunity to ask questions and from there we moved on to more personal connections through networking and shadowing.
There was a great focus on the aspects of DB that makes them stand out in the industry, and their culture is at the heart of this. With sessions on well-being, we got to truly appreciate what it means to work in the industry and at DB. From here, there were other sessions that always linked back to how DB's culture differs. It was the personal experiences that put the most weight on this.
This week was exceptionally valuable in allowing people to make the decision of whether IB and/or finance is for them. Through education and further questioning, we were given a 'flair' of what it means to work in the industry. We could then easily determined whether this was something we aligned with and make the appropriate decisions from there. DB was very good in making sure that we knew whether this was the right career choice.
Everything Else
There were a number of networking opportunities throughout the week. This included all levels from the business, from senior members to recent graduates. DB was fantastic in ensuring we got to hear about the experiences of people throughout their career and made sure we knew about how the industry was changing/had changed. The networking opportunities on offer were fantastic.
As previously mentioned, they were fantastic. The involved a variety of contexts too. From having drinks with senior members and recent graduates to heading to a bar with fellow interns. There were relationships being built at all levels and after the week, you will want to continue those connections into the future.
This is something that we got some exposure to in the dedicated well-being session. However, when in the networking events this is something I actively asked employees to get more personal experience from. I heard about the sports on offer as well as a variety of other events. These included: fundraising, team nights out, etc.
I would strongly recommend this insight to anyone considering a professional career, even if they are unsure as to whether finance is right for them. The graduate team were fantastic in providing support and the week was exceptionally well organised. I gained something from every session and the whole week was an experience I will never forget. The people I met, the experiences I had and the things I learned will stay with me in the future and I'm so grateful to have had the opportunity.
