    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • I have really enjoyed it because we were giving a large variety of work to do, from shadowing different divisions across IBD Tech, Equities and Data intelligence, to working on a group project with my team with the support of a specific division. Also, I enjoyed taking parts in many difference skills sessions that we were offered.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • We were giving a real problem to solve and given guidance on how we should be approaching such a problem. At times it felt that the project was not very well aligned with the theme we were asked to follow, ie we were asked to use a Data Lake for data enrichment for a project where such thing is simply not useful, or at least that was the advice from our project manager.

    3/5

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • We were assigned a buddy who was someone who recently joined the company and is currently working in the same "general" division (Tech). We were also given a project sponsor and a few project directors who guided us through the project and answered any questions we raised to them.

    4/5

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • As I study a technical degree in Computer Science and Mathematics, I did not find the placement to directly aid me in my degree, as all the new things I have learnt are things that I will most likely not be examined in by my degree due to specific modules I will be taking.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • The structure was good, we were given a timetable for two weeks with some time for our project and every day we had a number of interesting sessions. There were frequent timetable changes, but despite that we were never left with nothing to do and usually we were not kept too busy.

    4/5

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • The atmosphere was great, everyone was nice and we were given guidance by anyone we have approached. We were able to make use of most facilities offered, such as room booking for practicing our presentation, and we have been given a designated space for working on our project and have computer access.

    4/5

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • We were given a large variety of training in a large number of skills sessions, they were very interesting and good, although sometimes we have spent the whole day simply sitting in the auditorium and listening to peoples experiences in the firm, which can be difficult to do for the whole day from 11am to 5pm.

    4/5

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • To a limited extent, whilst we were given a group project, it was not a true reflection of what work is really like- working full time does not mean that every day you spend a few hours in a skills session or shadowing someone, so whilst it has given us a lot of information on different divisions, it was not a true reflection of working here full time.

    4/5

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • A large amount of insight into the company culture has been showed throughout my internship, it was shown by the people who were giving us skills sessions as well as the people we have been shadowing, who have given this insight in a much more informal manner, which was really good.

    4/5

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • The content of the day was valuable in deciding our future career path, it gave us a lot of shadowing and large amount of insight into various careers offered within the company and the various roles within each divisions which was really good and helpful in terms o deciding a career path

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • Answering whether I was paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience is a difficult questions. We have typically worked 10 hours a day, so let's say 100 hours, which means that at a salary of eight hundred, we have been left with a pay of eight pounds per hour, but one of such hours would be spent in the canteen which was very expensive. Hence the answer is yes we were, but only because most spring weeks do not pay at all.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • Yes, we were given free time to organise meeting with people and we had a number of informal networking sessions, we were also shadowing a lot of people which gave us a chance to meet a lot of people across many divisions, which was very good in expanding our network.

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • The networking and or social event opportunities were very good, we were given free time to organise meeting with people and we had a number of informal networking sessions, we were also shadowing a lot of people which gave us a chance to meet a lot of people across many divisions, which was very good in expanding our network.

    4/5

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • Yes, we have been allocated time to organise our own meet ups with people we were also shadowing a lot of people which gave us a chance to meet a lot of people across many divisions, which was very good in expanding our network, it was very amazi n g.
