About You
Found it really insightful into what working at the firm is like and what the different desks within the division actually did - very interesting and enjoyable.
Everyone was really friendly and happy to speak to us which was very humbling considering how busy they all were.
We had a schedule which was quite busy as well as a couple projects we could work on during our free time. HR members were on hand for any questions but also had a support system involving mentors and buddies. The other interns were also a good resource for any questions as we were all going through the same experiences.
Not so relevant for my degree except allowing me to realise how many more hours in the day there actually are - maybe I'll be more incentivised to wake up early now and achieve more during my days! Very useful skills such as networking, communicating, time management, presentation skills could be developed during this insight programme. Also learnt a lot of technical information specific to the industry which was very helpful.
The Company
Had a good mix of training, desk rotations, presentations as well as free time to work on our projects and carry out our own networking - reaching out to areas of the division we were particularly interested in.
Other interns could be a little try-hard at times but in general everyone was very friendly and happy to help
A lot!!! Learnt so much about the firm and its industry which will be super helpful for any career involved in finance. Also had presentations on skills such as interviews and resilience which can be transferrable anywhere. We also had sessions with partners who offered various pieces of insight into how they had such successful careers.
The summer programme allows interns to discover more in depth what a particular desk does but on the spring internship we were able to develop an overview of the different desks and how the day to day role differs in sales vs trading or a flow rather than structured product.
Really got to understand the culture both by experiencing it first hand and asking employees about it and how it compared to other firms they had worked at.
Almost certainly want to have a career in the division in the firm now I enjoyed the internship so much
Everything Else
Paid and reimbursed if travel was expensive and provided with free accommodation if lived too far away. Also provided with some free food/drinks
Yes there were many opportunities both formal and informal - could reach out to employees asking to meet up for a chat any time
I was ill so didn't get to go to any but heard good things!!
I think the work takes up so much time there is not an awful lot of free time however we learnt about the gym and exercise classes available.
Yes definitely it was super interesting and valuable for anyone considering a career in sales and trading
