About You
I thoroughly enjoyed the Goldman Sachs Spring week programme. There was just so much to learn and we heard a lot of inspiring stories from a range of employees from all across the firm. It was also really easy to get in touch with people because everybody wants to help you develop.
The programme was very inclusive in the sense that everybody had their time to experience different roles in the range of activities that were organised. It genuinely felt like we were a part of the firm even though it was just an introduction. The environment is very friendly as well and questions are always encouraged.
We received a lot of guidance and support throughout the programme and I was never scared to put my hand up and clarify or ask for more information on things I was unsure about. Everybody involved in the programme is also usually happy to give you their time to explain things further.
The information I received on the programme definitely made some aspect of my degree much clearer even if it was more of a refresher on the things I had already learnt. In terms of skills I developed on the programme, I do believe that they will help me in terms of the way I approach my degree studies and being in future work environments.
The Company
The insight was very well structured. Exactly the right mix of scheduled sessions and time you could fill with independent learning, There was always something to do at the right level of intensity to keep you engaged but not overwhelming.
The general atmosphere during my insight was very engaging. There was a lot to learn and not that much time to absorb it all so a lot of it was very fast paced but at the same time there was an enormous amount of support and I made a lot of friends and met some very interesting people.
We received a lot of training on the skills we would need to use over the course of the insight and we they gave us a lot of materials to help us throughout.
As a result of the programme, I had an oppurtunity to talk to a lot of different people within different toles at the firm meaning that I got a lot of different perspectives on what a full time role consists of which was very useful. There were also a lot of presentations on this topic.
Being at the firm for the two weeks as well as some of the sessions really helped me to see first hand the company culture. It was like a presenter would describe different aspects of the firm's culture and then gradually over the two weeks it became clearer and clearer that it was genuinely how the firm is.
The content of the entire spring week was extremely informative in terms of helping me decide whether investment banking is what I wanted to do long term. We were given tasks and projects and the firm did very well in simulating to some extent what it would genuinely be like in a full time role. As well as conversations with people that are in some of the positions that I hope to get to.
Everything Else
There were ample oppurtunities to network both organised by the programme and otherwise. Everybody at the firm was genuinely happy to give up their to answer all of my questions on a wide range of topics. I very quickly became comfortable talking to people and getting their perspectives on some of the things I was unsure about going into the spring week.
The networking oppurtunities were extremely useful as well as very comfortable. The people were very forthcoming with information and were genuinely interested in my opinions on certain topics which was very encouraging.
There was a lot of information about activities that employees can get involved with outside of the workplace and a big emphasis on work - life balance throughout the duration of the spring week which was very refreshing. We had talks about the large number of intiatives that the firm runs and the oppurtunity to find out more.
I would definitely recommend this insight to a friend. If you even have a slight interest in investment banking I definitely would encourage you to participate in this programme because it just provides so much clarity on so many different areas of the industry. It is very intense because of the short amount of time but everyday was genuinely so interesting and I learnt so much.
