About You
The insight was an amazing experience from start to finish, and allowed the interns to gain a realistic view of what it would be like to work at the company. I really enjoyed meeting employees from different divisions and of different experience levels, and networking with other interns across the firm.
Despite not having long at the firm, I felt valued and through this, could get a good sense of the company's culture. Employees were always happy to take the time out of their busy schedules to meet us and talk about their work and about the firm as a whole.
For the group project that we were assigned to do, we were given a project mentor that would regularly meet with us, help with the information, and give us feedback on our presentation. People were always more than happy to answer any questions we had, so I felt well supported.
Despite doing a degree that is not directly related to finance, I believe that the skills I gained will help me in my degree, and definitely in my future career. The skills I developed include team work, communication, and networking skills, and learning how to develop a curious mindset and ask questions.
The Company
The insight had a really great mix of networking events, presentations, and group activities over the two weeks. It was up to the interns to use our own initiative to follow up on presenters to arrange work shadowing if we were genuinely interested in the area that they worked in.
In general, the atmosphere was buzzing which made for a stimulating experience. The days were packed with interesting things to do and everyone was really friendly.
It was clear that the firm really cared about making sure that the spring interns were able to develop. This is both in terms of understanding of the firm and division, but also personally through the activities we did. They wanted to make sure we got a lot out of the internship.
I got a really great understanding of what it would be like to be a full time employee at the firm because we had the opportunity to work shadow, which showed us what the day to day role would involve. We also saw what employees could get involved with outside of the work.
The company culture was evident throughout the spring weeks. Through seeing how employees interacted with each other and with the interns, it was clear that there is a strong, friendly company culture. The importance of team work was really encouraged and emphasised, so I could understand what it important to the firm.
I have got a much clearer idea of the division I would like to work for in the future, so the insight programme was so helpful in helping me to decide what I would like to pursue as a career. Previously, I was unsure whether I would enjoy it, but this has confirmed that I would.
Everything Else
There were plenty of opportunities to network and meet loads of people from across the firm. As part of the programme, networking events were put into our schedules, but after work we could also attend networking events put on by networks at the firm, and this gave us the opportunity to network a lot.
We had a presentation on the first day of the insight programme that gave us an introduction to the affinity networks in the firm. This showed us that there are plenty of activities, events, and networking opportunities at the firm so there is lots to get involved with outside of work.
