The Role
The internship was very enjoyable because I felt as though I was trusted with work that mattered, rather than menial tasks. The office environment was also very supportive; if ever I was unsure about something, the people around me were happy to help. The atmosphere was friendly which made the experience very enjoyable
The work done on a 6 week internship is unlikely to prepare you for everything the company requires of their employees but I felt a noticeable difference in the type of work I was trusted with week by week. This made me feel like I was always making progress and was a valued member of the team
Everyone in the Fulcrum office was exceptionally supportive. Both senior and newer members of staff recognised the importance of making sure people feel confident to ask for help when it is needed. Everyone I encountered was more than happy to spend time showing the best way of carrying out tasks so that I got the most out of my experience.
The projects at PwC are long term so there are always things that need doing that can be delegated to you. I rarely felt as though I didn't have enough to be getting on with and the work I had was set out clearly so I understood what my progress looked like and why I was doing things.
My responsibility grew over the course of my internship, understandably starting with more repetitive work but as my exposure to different elements of the job grew, I was trusted with increasingly more responsibility. Towards the end, I was able to take on larger tasks independently.
This lower score is simply because the work done by PwC is very different to the kind of work done on my English Lit degree. However skills in resourcing information and general timekeeping are of course transferable. I would also say that the fact that the work done by PwC is so far from the work I do at University is a credit to PwC's culture of recruiting people from a range of backgrounds
The Company
The atmosphere was incredibly homely. The team understood the value of socialising with each other and how this enhanced their ability to work well as a team. Everyone was incredibly approachable and enjoyed what they did which made the office a place you wanted to be and wanted to contribute to
The work done by PwC is complicated so the initial learning curve was steep and while I got used to the basic tasks, it was difficult to see where what I was doing fit into the overall strategy. However once the variety of my work increased, I could see a clear line of progression through each project i worked on
Interns were given the same equipment used by full-time employees which allowed us to get a great understanding of what the real work was like. PwC was also keep for us to experience many aspects of the job including traveling to other offices. I felt that my development was important to PwC
Company Parties/Events
PwC seems like an excellent firm to work for and I would be very happy to receive a job offer from them. It has been valuable to experience a line of work I am not used to and I can definitely see the potential for career progression with the firm.
The Culture
The team enjoy socialising together, taking time to have fun conversation in the office and often going out or organising a quiz at the end of the week. There are also social events at different point in the year like sports days and team building days
I already live near to where my placement was so cost was as reasonable as I am used to
The city has great nightlife with a host of bars, clubs and restaurants.
During the 6 weeks there were several chances to get involved with sports outside of work. These included football and rounders and I am sure other activities like running are done too.
