The Role
I think the internship program is very well planned out and it was very exciting to meet so many different types of people. The people are very social and make you feel welcome. The work was challenging but engaging, and I feel like I learned a lot over my 10 weeks here.
My colleagues treated me with the upmost respect. They wanted to know what I was working on and how I was doing, they checked up on me and made sure I knew what was going on, and they were very friendly to me throughout my time here. They also made me feel like part of a team.
I think that there was always guidance when I asked for it, but I wished sometimes that it would be given without me having to explicitly ask for it. I think that everyone senior is very busy but it is important for them to make time for the interns, and this was sometimes not the case.
I was busy but in the best way. I felt like my work was moving forward and I had tangible goals of what I could achieve, and I did achieve them. I never had to stay super late at the office and there were very few days where I felt super overwhelmed.
I was given a lot of responsibility, especially with my project. I felt like I had full ownership and needed to go out of my way to get things done. I did not have anyone looking over my shoulder to see if I did the work, it was all up to me to make sure I was productive and doing the right thing.
I learned a lot of skills I did not expect, such as working in a corporate environment, networking effectively and communicating in a professional manner. Technically, I feel like I gained skills as a developer, but not as much technically as I had expected, just because of the nature of my project.
The Company
The office is very professional, but the people are so friendly and fun that it is never dull or too quiet. People are constantly speaking to each other, catching up, grabbing coffees and keeping the atmosphere quite lively and fun. I think the office was a great place to be and I was excited to come in every day.
The intern program was organised very well. They basically set everything up, took a lot of effort to make sure we knew what the firm is like and what tech is like. The social events were fun and well planned as well. It was overall planned very well, especially since it was such a short time.
The firm provides a lot of training platforms and access to courses. During my first two weeks, I spent a lot of time doing online tutorials and everyone was completely on board with that. We also had a lot of sessions with training that were optional but really helpful, such as a React course, etc.
Flexi Time
Sports and Social Club
Company Parties/Events
It is very appealing to come back full time, because as an intern you feel like they really took the time and effort to invest in you, and you can see around the office that everyone has an amazing career because they all help each other grow and develop. I know that I would have a great career if I came back.
The Culture
Everyone was surprisingly so fun and great to talk to. I felt like daily I was meeting new people and having a good laugh. Everyone is very social among the interns, and the teams as well. We all speak a lot and get along, the social scene is definitely good here.
The cost of living in London is pretty high, but I commuted thirty minutes and my rent was not too bad. I think that socialising is quite expensive around the office, and it is not very easy to find a decently priced drink in London. But we had many events with free food and drinks and that was helpful.
There were definitely a lot of opportunities to go out. People were very eager to go to clubs and have a good time. The clubs in the area are really fun, and of course you can have a good time in London, although it will be quite expensive by the end of the night.
There was a lot of things going on, in terms of social events there was drinks and dinners. We also had a community team works day where I got to work on a farm which was really nice. Also the gym is very good and has a lot of classes.
