The Role
1 and 10 simultaneously, the internship has been one of the hardest things I have done, but equally it has offered such an opportunity to learn about finance and also grow as a person and develop my professional self. I have loved the other interns and the employees here, and will be sad to not see them every day. I have also loved the constant stimulation and excitement that both the internship and markets have provided.
It varied desk to desk. Although on the whole, I was pleasantly surprised at how nice everybody was and how people would give up their time to help. However, on the busier desks I think we definitely were not that valuable and so this time was more scarce, understandably so though.
This high mark is dedicated to the handful of people who really were faultless in their mentorship and support. My HCM rep Natalie was so supportive and helpful in times of need (of which there were many), and the extent to which some people would go out of their way to help, check in on and teach me was so appreciated.
Extremely. I don't think I've ever been so busy. There is always plenty put on you and if not then there is plenty to go and seek out. It got much more busy towards the end as I began juggling desks, but you put much work in as you want to get out.
Not a lot really, but it's hard to have responsibility in securities because you are neither allowed to talk to clients nor trade. Some desks gave work that actually helped them with their analysis or morning emails, but this was rare. Most of it was trade ideas or stock pitches.
I think it will be limited, given that I dont do finance. It might help with economics a bit but the practical application of economics is far removed from the theory we get taught at uni. It might help me find flaws in the models I study, but not much else. As for history, I dont think it contributes much.
The Company
Driven, ambitious, hectic. I think the two floors have a very different atmosphere. FICC is a bit more chaotic and stressful whereas equity has a slightly more relaxed vibe. People on the whole are busy, but this is a positive thing because we actually get to see what is going on
absolutely chaotic. but it is designed that way so kind of organised chaos. The rotation system is madness, but does allow for choice and autonomy throughout the internship. I think we maybe could have done with some longer rotations and fewer 1 hour rotations. But in terms of the first few weeks it was seemless.
Some individuals invest a great deal in your personal development. My HCM rep invested lots of time in me and helped me develop as a person as well as through the firm. Some other individuals across desks acted as mentors to help me personally get through the process and learn about myself.

Very 50/50 atm, I'd love to have a job but I'm not sure I'm going to get one. It's all up in the air and I genuinely have no idea. I hope so though and I hope its with the desk I want. I think though if you dont get one on the internship you dont get another chance with GS.
The Culture
There was such a great social scene with the other interns. I've made some friends for life and we all acted well to support eachother and help eachother through the process. A few of us are going on holiday together in September and I will miss everyone a lot.
The cost of living is super high in London with both accommodation and socialising being very costly. The pubs in the area are super expensive and I spend a lot on eating out too. But this is just London pricing. They also provide a housing allowance to help with this.
Nightlife in London is great, but very expensive. Also its hard to get the energy to go out when you're always super tired but when we did go out it was really really fun. The office is also in a great place to go out after work. I wish we had made more of it.
Yeah we had a day where we could go on community works and volunteer in the community. Also, there was a gym which I used in my spare time which was open on weekends. London is so vibrant that there are always things going on and loads of things to do
