The Role
Overall I have enjoyed the work that I have been doing. This has been helped by an excellent company culture, a great office atmosphere, and a wealth of events put on specially for the interns to teach us more about the company and just generally for us to learn and have fun.
Although I was working on a different project to the rest of the team, my colleagues still made sure to include me and make me feel relevant, inviting me to their lunches, meetings, and after work drinks, as well as valuing my input in meetings when I did have something relevant to contribute.
I had loads and loads of contact with my manager, and other people in even higher positions. This meant that at any time I needed to I was able to take problems or queries to them and get answers quickly and easily. I also never felt like the managers thought I wasting their time as they were always keen to help.
I could have been more busy for what my hours were. There were quite a few times where I was waiting on a response from somebody else for a while meaning that I couldn't continue my work in the meantime. However I was able to use this time to access learning resources so it wasn't all wasted.
I was given complete responsibility over my own project within it's bounds, which was a nice touch as it meant that I had a lot of freedom to architect and build my project how i wanted to. However, I do know that this was not the case for some other interns in the same division.
The skills I picked up are all very relevant to working in the industry, and will no doubt help me greatly in any future job. I have not improved my programming, or other software skills during the internship, but it has improved my soft skills, and things such as networking and presenting.
The Company
It was always a good space to get work done without too much distraction, but at the same time it was fairly relaxed, and there was no restrictions on when I couldn't have a break or go for a chat with a colleague. It was a friendly atmoshere where everyone was keen to help.
The firm has been running intern schemes for a very long time. This does mean that they have really got the hang of the best way to go about doing it. The whole scheme is well organised from start to finish, giving you a good view of the whole firm, and making sure that you are working on a fulfilling project that you are guaranteed to finish before your time is up.

The Culture
Yes there was. Partially due to the sheer number of interns at the firm. This meant that it was easy to find like-minded people, and there would always be some people going out for drinks or meeting up. Beyond this, the firm ran multiple networking events to help us get to know other interns from parts of the firm we may not otherwise have crossed paths with.
It's no secret that central London is an expensive area to life and work in. Fortunately this is because the companies in the area tend to pay quite well which is also true of the internship, and so is not too much of a problem. Having said this, it is not really any more expensive than most London prices.
