The Role
Real insight into financial markets. Rotations across all desks of the trading floor. Steep learning curves thanks to meaningful projects allowing to interact with various people across the floor in all functions (sales, trading, strats) Events for interns; organized by desks; organized by affinity groups on a frequent basis
My colleagues gave me meaningful projects and trust me to deliver it. They gave me more and more responsibilities because they believed in my qualities and pushed me to learn and grow.
A lot. However, the firm allows us to be very independent and approach any task or our project the way we want and the way we like.
Extremely busy. Networking with the desk, other desks, working on different projects, going to events.
A lot. Responsibility to work on my own project, network with key people, help the desk on daily tasks.
I improved my multitasking a lot. I learned to learn a lot, in a short period of time. I learned to cope with pressure and keep cool in any situation. I learned about the importance of networking and maintaining relationships with people across the firm. I improved my technical skills because each desk has its own products, methodology; so each week was a complete discovery and new learning experience.
The Company
Good. People were willing to help and also available for catch ups in and out the office. Coffee meetings were organized with people across the firm at all levels (the most junior to senior). We were pushed to deliver our best which is really fulfilling because a lot of people believe in your skills and the fact that you could deliver "analyst-level" work.
The Human Capital Management did an amazing job. Everything was really well planned which allows to maximize our experience across the firm.
A lot. The company invested in my potential, in my skills. Coming from a non financial background, I got a lot of support to develop my skills and build on new ones.
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Sports and Social Club
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
Really appealing. Looking forward to come back to the firm and start my career here if I get the chance to.
The Culture
A lot of events were organized during the internship. The desks organized drinks and team building events, interns organized their own events and affinity networks too. This was a great way to get exposure not only of the securities division, but the firm as a whole. It was great to have a balance between work and socializing.
Central London is not the most affordable place to be in London. However, being central meant that restaurants and places to have drinks were really close to the office, which is always good when you step off the office.
Good.
I used the week end to rest or do some readings for my projects.
