    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I was exposed to various different teams and received a wide range of tasks. I enjoyed the general atmosphere in the firm and think that I learned a lot. Overall I was very happy with the progress I made during my internship and would certainly re-apply if I had to make the choice again.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Despite always being busy, I felt everyone was very respectful and happy to take some time to talk to me when I had a question. I think that the firm has a great collaborative culture and feel that people generally value their colleagues. Despite being the intern I did not have the impression of being regarded as just a part time team member.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • The firm provides various sources of support to reach out to including: personal buddies (junior level), mentors (associate level), VP sponsors (senior level), Deal Captains, Business Unit Managers, HCM mentors (Human Resources Team). I felt that the degree of support that I got during the 10 weeks was really remarkable.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I was very busy most of the time and generally had very few days with a lot idle time. Often I worked long hours to finish my assignments within the required deadlines. However, this was was actually exactly what I had expected before joining such that it did not come at a surprise. I do enjoy working hard and prefer being busy to being bored.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was regularly given tasks and felt that I could contribute meaningful work for almost all projects that I was staffed on. Nonetheless, I felt that being the intern, it was obviously not always me who got the most important or most interesting tasks. But I assume this is not what you can expect and overall I was happy with the responsibilities I was given.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I think many skills will prove to be valuable in the future, including networking, social and technical skills. This will likely help me not only during my remaining year at University but also in any future job that I might take. On top of that, I think the network you can build during the internship is invaluable.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • I perceived the overall atmosphere as positive and at the same time as very productive. One gets the feeling of working alongside top of class people and finds many colleagues. I had the impression that people enjoy working for the company and

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • In terms of organization the entire program was superb. HR did an amazing job organizing various events around the daily work at the desk and I feel that these events really made the internship special. I cannot recall a single instance in which the program failed to meet expectations in terms of organizational aspects.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The firm provided an extensive training week at the beginning of the program and kept organizing individual events throughout the entire internship. Besides from that, interns had access to all the company-internal training resources. Overall, I feel that the company heavily invested in every single intern coming over for the summer.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    Company Parties/Events

    Working from home

    Healthcare/Dental

    5/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • The internship confirmed my desire to join the company as a full-time employee subsequent to my graduation. Comparing my experience within Goldman to some previous internships I feel that the company provides outstanding career opportunities and is rightfully regarded as industry leader. However, I find it hard to quantify how likely it is that I will get an offer at the end.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement 西瓜视频s/colleagues?
  • I found that the general atmosphere was very collaborative and experienced very few situations in which I felt other interns were actively trying to out-compete each other. I can honestly tell that I made really good friends during the 10 week tenure and think that this might be one of my biggest takeaways.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • London is known for its expensive housing prices and I would probably consider this as one of the biggest drawbacks of working here. I spent the same amount on my rent in a week that I would have spent at home for an entire month, while getting higher value at home.

    2/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • I did not participate a lot in any nightlife activities. This was partly due to my personal interests and partly due the requirements at work. However, from others I heard that there are various opportunities to go out on a regular basis. I would actually expect nothing less from London, than having a vibrant nightlife.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • In terms of free-time there were limited opportunities to engage in non-work activities. However speaking in terms of the employer I realized that there a several initiatives within the firm that provide employees with the opportunity to engage in non-work activities. I had the impression that these activities could potentially be very interesting but did not manage to take part in them personally.
