The Role
Work was interesting and I learned A LOT, but work hours are heavy and make it very tiring in the long run. The learning curve is very steep, make sure to enjoy it.
People are super approachable and you are taken seriously form your first day on the desk. This is one of the best aspects of the firm.
I worked with two groups: the first one didn't help me as much as I had needed to do well, but the second one was exceptional. I think this really depends on the culture of the individual team you end up with. People are helpful overall though.
My average work day was 12h+ and I did NOT spend this time doing anything else than work and compulsory lectures. Really be ready to work hard if you aim to do well.
Very high responsibility was given to me from the first day, working on products for real clients. This was a bit scary in the beginning, but really allowed me to impress (or not) and it was exciting to be taken seriously!
Not super relevant for a science degree in terms of content, but I have certainly developed transferable skills and also learned a lot for a future career in the financial sector.
The Company
Team dependent, but the atmosphere is usually surprisingly cheerful compared to the high pressure.
Some software access issues in the beginning, but the rest of the weeks passed seamlessly. However, invited to compulsory intern events were sometimes sent out very late, causing clashed and struggles in the calendars. I think this is something which could be significantly improved to next year.
The GS University platform is absolutely fantastic, you can take courses in everything from macroeconomics to photoshop. I highly recommend spending time exploring the resources and using them when time allows, it really is a unique opportunity to acces so much material at one place. There are also plenty of documents helping with integration to the firm and its culture, which I recommend reading in the beginning of your internship.

If you can stand the high pressure environment, Goldman is a fantastic way to start you career: the learning opportunities are superb and the firm is very well respected and will shine on any CV.
The Culture
The social scene was OK, but got grouped up very early and I feel many people were then left out from the privately arranged socials. Might also just be that everyone worked a lot and didn't have the time to meet up and socialise.
London City is bloody expensive. I honestly didn't believe that rent for 拢250/week is normal. Really kills a lot of the money you earn...
Didn't try so cannot rate.
Except for some women's, LGBT and black minority events I didn't come across a lot.
