    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I really enjoyed it. I learnt a lot about how the firm works and also gained some useful technical knowledge and skills about the industry that I feel will be very useful in the future. I would definitely recommend the internship to others who think they would be interested in a career in banking.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I definitely felt very valued by my colleagues. Everyone was very kind and supportiv when I had questions, and I had the opportunity to really get stuck in as I worked on my project for my team. I think the people at the firm generally are very welcoming and helpful.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I was given a lot of support by my managers. They were open to my desires to learn about other parts of the division, and were willing to provide me with as much support and help as I needed. There was definitely an open dialogue between my manager and I, and I felt comfortable speaking with him candidly about my experiences as I went through the internship. He was also very good in providing feedback and letting me know how to improve.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • 3/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given responsibility over a number of business functions, and wen I asked for more work, my team was willing to comply by finding me projects or tasks that they needed done. I had to be proactive in asking for more responsibility, but once I asked, the team was happy to find things for me to do

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • My degree is not related to finance, so the technical skills I l gained relating to finance and commerce are not transferable per se. However, the softer skills I learnt will be incredibly useful. I learnt how to be organised and manage my time. I also learnt how to work effectively in a team and be proactive with finding information. These skills will definitely be useful for my degree.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere in the office was very friendly, yet professional. Everyone did their work, but you could tell that teams are very collaborative both within themselves as well as with the wider division. People are always talking and bouncing ideas off of each other, so it was a very refreshing space to be in.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • I thought it was fairly well organised. At the start of the internship we had many talks during the day so that we could learn about the different teams within the division and how they worked together, and then as the weeks progress, we would have less and less talks so that we could focus on working with our team and feel like actual employees of the firm.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The company definitely invested a lot in us. I was given a lot of training about GS and their systems. We also had a lot of talks that were aimed at teaching us not just technical skills, but also soft skills. For example: how to deliver an effective presentation, how to manage your time, etc. We also had access to GS's training website.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    Sports and Social Club

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I think GS would be a great place to work at. People are always working on lots of interesting projects, and you would be surrounded by some really brilliant people. I think the work is very rewarding and it's definitely somewhere I could see myself working at in the future.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement 西瓜视频s/colleagues?
  • The interns organised lots of dinners and socials after work. There were also a few firm organised events that were really fun to attend. I think there was a good rapport between all the interns who worked at the firm that was not just division specific, but genuinely throughout the firm.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I found it to be not too expensive to live and socialise in the area. There were lots of moderately priced places for people to eat/grab a coffee. GS also has a subsidized canteen so people could meet and have coffee there if they wished for a price that was reasonable.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • 3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • 4/5
