The Role
I absolutely loved the Goldman Sachs internship. Every step of the way you feel supported yet challenged - they help you along the way and teach you everything you need to know at a suitable pace, but also inspire something in you that makes you want to do more.
Goldman Sachs employees are invested in your personal development. I've been with various companies since I was 17, but nothing compared to the Goldman Sachs culture. They are all very passionate about their work and about their people, and there's HEAVY emphasis on diversity and inclusion.
During the internship, you get a lot of exposure to senior management. The most remarkable part, however, is that everyone talks to each other as if they are equal. The management creates a very safe space for you to not only develop, but for you to feel happy and comfortable.
Some days are busier than others, but that leaves you with the space to take your own initiative and create your own appointments and create your own products. Goldman Sachs is big on trust - they know that the people they hire are talented and they let you show that.
I was given so much more responsibility than I could have ever anticipated. I wasn't treated like an intern or a temporary worker - I was treated like I had a seat at the table, like I was part of the team. I was given the guidance to know how to go about doing things, and then the freedom to take the reigns and do things myself.
My internship was invaluable. I felt that the training and skill development came in levels - everyone would be provided with a practical understanding of all aspects of the job, as well as the assurance that the company would allow you to hone and increase your skill-set. After that, you could reach out to SMEs or pick up specific tasks until you were satisfied with your level of growth. This is something I greatly appreciated, and can carry forth with me in my career.
The Company
The office was always buzzing. Whenever people had spare time, instead of going home or using their personal devices, they would look for their other friends and colleagues within the office to catch up and bond. I definitely think the motto here is 'work hard, play hard', because you never see anyone doing the bare minimum or slacking off, but they still have time to enjoy themselves and remain buoyant.
The internship was organised very well - you get to know a lot of people and you get to know how to do a lot of things. You grow very close to your team and fellow interns. You come out of it completely satisfied - there is no more I could have asked for, except for perhaps a longer internship because it's sad now it is coming to an end.
Extremely so! Goldman Sachs is an investment bank - not only business-wise, but people-wise. Every day I felt like I met the kindest, most selfless person ever. It's not something you'd expect from the Finance sector, but just like its business practices, Goldman sets its own standards, and surpasses them.

Future employment prospects within Goldman Sachs are very promising. You are not made to feel like you have to earn your place - they make you feel like you deserve to be there, and that as long as you are the person you said you were, you will enjoy a long career with the company.
The Culture
One thing I really appreciated about the internship was that there was no forced socialising. There are plenty of opportunities to go out or to get involved in extra-curricular activities, but fundamentally, it is your choice. They appreciate that everyone is different, and allow you to go at your own social pace. In Goldman Sachs, there is ALWAYS something on, so there's never a dull moment in the office, but there's also never the pressure to get involved either.
My internship was in London, which was obviously pricier than other parts of England. But in relation to other capital cities, I think that it is very much possible to do London on a budget. The cost of socialising is not very much - you can easily go out with your colleagues or friends whenever you wish. Transport is also affordable - there's a 拢6 daily cap for public transport. The most expensive, however, is housing. But most internships in London will offer you housing allowance - Goldman did.
The internship was in the HEART of London. You're right next to SoHo and all the other central areas, so of course, the nightlife is the best in the world. During the summer its also very safe because there are a lot of tourists until early hours of the morning.
There are so many opportunities, but as I said, it's your choice!
