    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I completed the six-week Summer Internship in Assurance with PwC, and really enjoyed my time here. I experiences a variety of clients and worked in a number of different teams, all of which were really interesting, welcoming and provided a positive internship experience. Although I didn't spend a lot of time with my intern peer group (as we were all booked to different jobs) we did enjoy socialising in the evenings.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I was apprehensive coming into the internship, as I've had no prior experience in Assurance and very limited knowledge of accounting more broadly. Despite this, I felt that my colleagues trusted me and were happy for my to just give things a go! I was always included in group meetings and discussions, and never felt overlooked because I was an intern.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • The support from everyone at PwC has been amazing. Supervisors would always give you time to try to figure things out myself first, but were always available if I needed a hand. Managers were very approachable and accommodating. Whenever I started on a new job my supervisor always asked what areas I'd worked on before / which areas I'd be interested in working on.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Most days - busy!! A couple of times I ended up leaving pretty late, but most of the time we just worked really hard during the day and left at a reasonable time. Being busy made it more interesting - working on issues as the arose and to tight deadlines. The days went so quickly!

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I really felt that my managers / supervisors trusted me during my time at PwC. To begin with it made me a little nervous that I was given so much responsibility and ownership for things (until I realised that everything I produced was thoroughly checked)! I really felt that the work I was doing was valued.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I study History and Politics, so the technical / accounting skills I learnt at PwC will not be applicable to my degree. The leadership, relationship and study/work skills I learnt will, however, be valuable in all aspects of studying. I hope to pursue a career in assurance as a grad with PwC, so the skills I've learnt during my internship will definitely give me a head start for that.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Very friendly, and far more relaxed than I was expecting! Everyone was interested in who was, what I studied, why I chose PwC and why assurance. PwC has a 'dress for your day' policy, which meant that in the office most people were dressed down, as well as there being flexible working hours. I definitely think this helped the relaxed, friendly atmosphere.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • At the beginning of the internship, all PwC interns from across the country partook in a three day residential induction, which gave very basic accounting training and an idea of what to expect from our time at PwC. We had all been pre-booked to jobs for the duration of our internship and had buddies as well and people managers in place when we arrived at our local offices.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Hugely! We all received three days of training at the residential at the start of our internships. We spent time working with senior members of staff and clients. People tool time to coach and support us throughout. During the six weeks I've learnt a huge amount about accounting and assurance!

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    National Travel

    Staff Sales/Staff Shop

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I've been offered a grad job with PwC, which I will definitely be taking up! I really enjoyed my internship and recognise the value of what PwC offer on their grad programme. Having spoken to lots of people already on the grad scheme, it sounds tough but definitely worth it!

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement 西瓜视频s/colleagues?
  • We were booked to different jobs and pretty busy a lot of the time, but we will caught up with each other at least one evening a week. If we were based in the office, we would often sit as an 'intern table'! The PwC social club hosted events a couple of times during our six weeks, which we all also attended.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I lived at home during my internship, meaning that the cost of living was nothing for me! Although I know the area locally is relatively cheap for accommodation. Socially, it's well priced too! Although lots of the fun things I did locally during my internship wee paid for by PwC!

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • The area has a good reputation for its nightlife, although I never went out out here during my internship, choosing to go out with my friends at home instead. The city in which I worked was too awkward to get to from home for me to go out without hassle.

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • YES! The social club was really active and just fab! We were invited on a couple of trips during our internship, which were really good and a great way to get to know more people from the office. I was hesitant to arrange to do things in the evenings during my internship, though, because I'd never know if I'd end up finishing late.
