The Role
It has been a privilege to be a part of this learning experience. You have the possibility to walk into room of experts and ask your entry level questions. People will take the time to answer them. It is great to be participating at the frontier of the financial services industry.
In the beginning no question can't be asked. naturally more and more is expected of you along the way but people do not hold it against you if something is unknown to you. When you deliver something good they it will be valued and you will be challenged to turn it into something useful for the firm.
AS can be expected people are busy, yet personal development and the learning curve of any intern is taken very seriously. There is a substantial feedback system in place and people make full use of its mechanisms. It is a business where hard work is valued but that doesn't mean you have to figure everything out yourself.
The nature of the financial service industry is a hardworking one. That being said a lot of it boils down to your own time management and prioritization scheme. It is busy and variable but that is part of business and actually draws people towards it. It's challenging but in a good way.
Naturally you can not have client interactions as an intern and you are not given responsibilities in that respect. nevertheless you can still add value and work on actual projects in the background. Managing the quality and timeline on those projects is your own responsibility and makes you fell value add.
My study background has been in the financial space and hence there is no better place than Goldman Sachs to learn. You are in an office building filled with experts on all areas of finance and hence can ask and learn about anything related (and even non-related). naturally the focus is on practice and less on theoretical derivations.
The Company
It is an exciting and vibrant space that has a real buzz to it. Everybody is active and eager to get things done but the atmosphere is very collaborative and open. The atmosphere is very energetic and inspires you to do well on everything you do. In short a great place to be.
The internship allows you to really discover the firm and all the aspects it has to offer. It is hard to know from the 'outside' what you want to do and the program is build to assist you in finding the right spot. It furthermore allows you to build a substantial and valuable network.
We have received extensive training during the first weeks and the firm makes sure everybody is up to par with basic financial knowledge. Personal development is best done through work and the firm naturally offers that experience. There are a lot of in depth sessions open to all interns where people educate you about all sorts of personal development

It is a fast paced and ever changing business and if you enjoy that the prospects are extremely appealing. The work will challenge you but a day is never the same. of course there is also a competitive remuneration package and good career prospects to add to that. It is a great firm to work for.
The Culture
Everybody was very talented and ambitious but the atmosphere was very friendly. The interns are happy to help anybody and you really form a 'class of interns' which is nice. The weeks might get intense but other interns will help you get through as everybody is in the same boat and probably have been through some of what you are dealing with
