The Role
The internship with GS has been extremely well structured and I have thoroughly enjoyed my time here. The company is extremely global and feels very large, but the people you meet throughout the firm have always been extremely helpful and friendly. Overall I have really enjoyed the internship and would love to come back.
My work has been on relevant and live projects that actually matter to the firm; and as such, I always have felt valued by my team. GS has a very flat structure, which means I have been able to connect with extremely senior people at the firm, including global heads.
Feedback culture is very important at GS and there is always a key drive in communicating with the team to consistently ask questions and see advice. I have been given a lot of on the job training as well as using GS guides to help acquaint myself with the platforms GS use.
Every single day has been packed with work and there has never been a dull moment. Each day has been entirely unique for me and I have never had a single day that has looked the same -- being in a team which is more projects based has helped as I get to define my own scope and drive to the work I do.
A lot, however I actively sought ownership on projects that I thought I could lead. Making the initiative to take charge and create an impact is vital. I found people didn't always give me work but the more questions I asked, and the more direct with what I want I've been, the better the rewards.
Soft skills such as time management, communication, team work and project management are tools I will be able to use at uni and in life generally. Understanding business etiquette and how to professionally conduct oneself is also a key skill I'll take away from the internship. Having the ability to understand complex systems, procedures and markets is an additional benefit.
The Company
Friendly, open and collaborative. Nicely cool as well during the hot summer months.
Constant presentations helped to educate and orientate myself to the firm. Regular networking events were good too!
A good balance between training and actually doing work helped.
Sports and Social Club
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
Career development, options to travel and a brand new office are all very appealing. The people, more than the work even, is what attracts me to work at GS.
The Culture
YES! Have been going clubbing almost every Friday with other interns, and GS networks are always hosting networking drinks.
Very expensive as it's in the centre of London, but it's worth it.
Fantastic as Covent Garden is around the corner
Yes, esp. with networks
